Whats involved: Early accessories on a common block?

Is using the early 2.2 oil pan and front crank seal retainer a REQUIREMENT for using early accessories with a common block?

I am building a 89 common block (was a 2.5) to replace the busted 87 non-common block (is a 2.2)bottom end in my 87 GLHS Charger.

What is needed off the non-common block motor to run the early 87 style accessories?

Someone suggested in another thread you can use the 2.2 oil pan and front crank seal retainer so you can use the early accessories. It looks like (but I have not tried or measured) the common block 2.5 oil pan and front crank seal cover will work with early accessories. I am also thinking that I would have to use the early style oil pump pickup as well as the 2.2 dip stick tube/stick combo to get the oil level correct if I put the early 2.2 oil pan on the later common block..I THINK! If the 2.5 common block pan will work fine, I'd be just as happy using it. If I have to use the 2.2 oil pan, I will drill and tap.

Its easy to see that the common block will need to be drilled and tapped to accept the old early oil pan as well as the front seal retainer plate.

So far I've heard I can use the 2.2 crank and (early HD or T2)rods and pistons in place of the same 2.5 pieces in the common block.
