So I figure I better start a little thread here somewhere off in the corner because Im going to have a lot of questions. Got this Laser this week and from what everyone says I really found a deal. This guys grandmother owned it, it was parked in a barn for 10 years, drove a while, she died, willed it to him, and immediately sold it to me. 43,XXX on the clock. $1,100.

Im currently trying to sell a 74 Nova project car with a big block to help fund the build up of the Laser. I should have a couple of grand left over after some other things get taken care of.

Hopefully the community can help steer me in the right direction as far as what I need to do to reach my goals. I figure if I get around 250 or more HP and 200 Tq, and a BOV that goes PSssssshhhh!! Ill just about be as happy as can be. And of course Ill just have to deal with extra power if I exceed those goals.

It is an auto car, like most people Im a manual guy, but if these autos can be built up I dont really have a problem keeping it. But then again if a conversion is the thing to do, itll be worth it with this car. I dont think Id have the same luck twice with mileage and price.

The motor seems to run tip top, and with 43k miles on it, Im hoping its going to be a good platform to build on...and save me money on having machine work done for a full rebuild.

Thanks in advance. I bow to your collective and infinite wisdom.

Just trying to get an idea of what they are worth.

I'd love to see something like a twin turboed 6x4 model doing burnouts or making a 100 mph pass at the drag strip. The thing is according to google, the fastest one I found only does 35mph. How come more people aren't modifying these things?? I was even hard pressed to find one that had been jacked up a little more for mud bogging. If anyone out there wants to do something different, I think the J.D. Gator would be an excellent vehicle to mod, because like I said, it seems that no one has done it. You might even be able to fit a jet engine or Hemi in the back!! lol.

My new project will be ditching the 60hp vw engine and putting in a chrysler turbo engine. The engine I bought I believe is a t2 because it has the intercooler? Is that the way to tell the difference? I havent done much research on it yet. Hopefully this site has the engine wiring diagram that I can use.

I am wondering what year and model this engine came from? Its says chrysler turbo on the valve cover and is not TBI so I believe its a 2.2l.

I noticed a small amount of shaft play on the turbo, engine seemed ok but I am leaning on tearing it down for further inspection. It was pulled from a wrecked car.

Any suggestions on a good service manual also?
