New to the forum. Just wanted to say hi. I drive a 1989 Dodge Daytona Shelby 2.2L Turbo II. Anyone have any good tips or tricks for a little more HP?

Open exhaust, bigger intercooler, start turning up the boost carefully til you're as fast as you like. Invest in a good Air Fuel ratio gauge and an EGT gauge to monitor what your engine is doing, plus a nice boost gauge! Good luck!

You have to install a grainger valve to turn up the boost past like 9 or 11psi. I'm not 100% sure how to make one since I haven't owned one of these turbo motors yet.

Im running 12psi right now. Its occasonally spiked 15 in cold weather but then the tractions out the window. Also whats a good shift point? Ive been shifting at 6k because I dont feel a pull anymore but it goes to 7 no problem.

I wouldn't take it to 7. I'm pretty sure 6500 is red line on the 2.2. The way these engines are set up, it's probably better to shift between 5500 and 6K, but I'm not 100%. I tend to play with the automatics more. You can do some research on here. There have been threads on it. I used to have a formula used in racing circles to determine the proper shift points for a car based on dyno results, but I haven't found that stuff since I moved to my new place.

Ok, so I see you're from Mt. Joy PA. Check out www.sv-td.com or www.dv-sdac.org as these are two local Shelby Dodge clubs fairly close to you.

Secondly, before trying to go faster in your turbo Dodge you should check to make sure it is functioning properly in stock form. Is the base timing correct? Is the cam timing correct? When was the last time it had plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, pcv valve, air filter? Is the computer showing any codes? Are the vacuum lines in good shape as these can often crack and cause problems. There is probably something I'm not thinking of, but these little things add up. If they're off you won't get max gain out of your modifications.

Everything in the engine bay was gone over, I just recently replaced the plugs and I have 2 extra sets of wires and a dist assembly. The previous owner pulled the motor and rebuilt it with mazerati 2.2L Turbo internals. The head, block, and valve cover are all OEM. I have all the paperwork on it too. All wires and hoses are new as the vehicle didnt run when the previous owner bought it. New clutch and flywheel also. Just got inspected 2 months ago by my uncle from top to bottom. All I need is to replace the faulty injector in cylinder 2 which should be done by this weekend. The motor isnt missing yet but it does have a slight roughness in the idle.

Idle issues typically are vacuum line related, at least in my experience.
