It has moved from Utah to Ohio where it will be restored and garaged always. Never to see the Ohio salt. A lot of plans are for this car. Thankfully Marcus has a great baseline developed for performance with the stock appearance. Gotta love tha 4-doors.

Yeah you ! Ok the car was for sale last January on the 2 boards. Once posted, I contacted the seller and asked several questions, looked at 36 pictures and verifying the original motor and trans. The motor is supposed to be blown but I don't care. I have another to preserve the original motor. The turbo is also the worst I have seen. It has a lot of side to side and up and down play. The car is gutted except 2 front seats and a rollbar. I parted out a junkyard 50k car from carpet to headliner to replace everything on the interior. It's been repainted and not all of the stickers made it back on. As for pictures, I will take some this weekend when I am home in the daylight. However, it is a great starting point for the last car I will own. That's what I had to tell the wife.

wow thats a huge project and this is great that you have decided to save another omni cause from your description it sounds like it had one foot in the grave.

will you be upgrading the engine/trany or staying basically stock?

Well, I want the stock appearance with the hidden perfermance upgrades you have done. First, exhaust upgrade and a 525 with the MP 3:94(?) ring and pinion that I acquired a while ago. Later I would like the trans builder you have set one up for me. Right now I have to focus on getting the other motor together and driveable for SDAC. As for one foot in the grave, some around these boards may have thought so. My previous car, 86 GLHS #268, has moved on to another excited owner who will never destroy it.

Oh, I was referring to Cliff when I mentioned your trans in the earlier post. For now I will have to make do with what I have. I have bought a couple things from Cliff too.

I was hoping you could get to SDAC this year. But there always is 2009. I never heard how your friend the yellow lab was doing.

he passed away September 3, 2007. it sucked the life right out of me also.

will Cliff be rebuilding your #'s matching 525 or a replacement 525? the second owner of my car threw away the #'s matching trany. what a weinerhead.

I am sorry to hear that about your dog. You mentioned he was in bad shape last May or so.

I will have another 525 modified so I can always go back to stock with the numbers matching parts. That's too bad about your trans. The original trans for 86 #268 went to a dumpster before I could save it.

thanks. He was the best dog in the world and he enjoyed a fantastic life. i have a deposit on a little yellow lab puppy who was born in a litter Jan 18th....if all goes well he should be here at 8 weeks old (March 15th).

CUDA ok so the original driveline stays safe and tucked away? i see lots of folks doing this, i think thats the way to go why risk the #'s matching stuff? although it has been fun for me drag racing on the original 20 year old pistons and rods.

since the interior was taken out of 307 did you find the Broadcast (build) Sheet? i've never seen one for any 86S i'm curious as to what they look like and i dont want to disturb my carpeting or seats.

Marcus - Although the new puppy can never replace the old friend, maybe it will help ease the lose. As for the numbers matching drivetrain, I have seen the value in this with the older Mopar muscle cars. A lot of people on these boards throw motors around and if they plan to keep the car for awhile, they will realize the value the car has with the original motor/trans. But you already kow this and I knew that too. I have an 89 T2 common block waiting for the weather to warm up. The interior is already gone along with the broadcast sheet. I have found them under the back seat on the passenger side and I think they were on top of the carpet. When I pull out the front buckets I will be check too.

thanks for the thoughts.

i always presumed that the Broadcast Sheets for the '86 GLHS might be identical to a regular GLH, except......maybe there were certain items never installed??? for example the wheels.....did these cars leave Dodge with the pizza wheels and the Eagle tires? or some other wheel/tire combo just for the trip? what about things like the radiator?

i always wondered what these 500 cars looked like as they left Michigan for California and the build sheet might help explain that...or might not at all.

I believe 'Shelbymotorsports' could answer that the best. But, it is my own understanding from what I have seen read and I believe from Steve that the cars were sent from Detroit to Whittier a couple at a time as they were produced throught the production year to be modified. Therefore the last 6 digits of the cars don't run sequentially. However, I do not own a VIN list for the 86 "S" cars. Also, I am not looking at my GLHS parts list right now but it lists the parts that I always believed to have been installed at Whittier and I know the Centurions are on it. I always wondered about the pizza wheels, log intakes, and pile of red ground effect pin striping that ended up at Whittier. The radiators are another one I never thought of either. But there would be a little pile of new parts per car. I just can't see them looking like the 1968 BO29M8 and LO29M8 Barracaudas and Darts. But it could have happened.

"..........But there would be a little pile of new parts per car. .........."

yeah good point........did these cars arrive exactly as a 1986 GLHT, then the we-dont-need-these-parts-for-the-GLHS just get removed at Whittier and shipped back to Michigan? like the struts and shocks, there's another bunch of parts.... if so, what happened to these "used" parts? or maybe some of these not-needed-for-GLHS parts were never even installed?

maybe someone will chime in and let us know.

a Broadcast Sheet would be interesting to review. did these cars leave as pure complete GLHT's?
