A semi-rusty C/S car, or an older turbo z? Really getting an itch to get a daytona and I guess it comes down to the rusty cs down the block or a possible garage find with a non working turbo. The c/s is a stick and was told it was an 89, but it has crab wheels so who knows. 156k on the clock with good interior but body has rust holes behind the doors and needs a pass door. Haven't looked underneath but the rest looks good and no damage. TIres are shot. DOn't know if it's a TII car or not. Lots of mismatched info out there. Car only has rear defrost and tape deck. THe turbo z is a friend's brother from work. Said he would probably part with it beings he hasn't drove it for 10 years and just sits inside storage with his MG. 5 spped car, black, has around 100k on it. Haven't seen this yet, but I'd hate for it to go no where when I could go scoop the c/s before it's gone. Best of knowledge price is 550 for the c/s and has new starter but hasn't been driven for nearly 2 years. What to do?

Depends on your abilities. I can wrench on anything, but suck big time at rust repair or bodywork. Keep in mind rust is like an iceberg- you only see very little of what is actually there.

I would go with the '89 c/s for sure if it's a t2 car those are very rare.

You're much more likely to find another turbo z than you are to find another '89 t2 c/s.

However, if it's just a t1 car, then I would probably go with the turbo z...

Just my preference though...

This is kinda the same thing I went through when getting my we4. It came down to getting a beautiful 84 hot air GN or get my trashed lightweight we4. They all told me if I wanted hot air, get hot air. If I want IC, get IC. My main concern on the car is floors and reliability of the motor, as I cannot take on a rebuild or anything major like a total engine rebuild. My garage is tied up with the buick being totally dissasembled. Swapping a rusted door or cutting rust and patching holes can be done outside, but a clutch or something to where I have to be on the ground doesn't sound too appealing. What trouble areas do I need to look at for rust? WHat about the K frame? I had a caravelle that had 3 cracks in the frame. How bout motor, anything special besides good oil pressure and little lifter noise I need to look for? Anything really difficult to do on these cars?

Well went and checked it out a little bit more. The door tag has 4/89 on it so I will assume it is an 88 model beings there was no bulge hood and was non intercooled. Car has a/c and power mirrors I noticed. Tires are shot. Looks like motor hasn't had anything done aside from oil changes. Kid said it runs and runs good. Interior looks nice aside from headliner. Has 15lbs boost guage. DOn't the non intercooled cars only run like 7lbs? DOesn't really seem like he wants to get rid of it unless he gets some retarded amount for it. He wanted to know what I was willing to pay for it. I told him he could get 350 if he scrapped it! I know where there's 2 more sitting with way better bodies so if he doesn't wanna let it go for a good price to someone that will do something with it then it can sit there and rot for all I care. I'll post back in a few hours when I go back and talk to him. AGB car by the way and is red with grey interior.
