Hey Folks, I am am new to this forum, but I am a long time omni lover, I have had about 10 of them. I am getting my first GLHS!!!!! The car is in good shape, but the engine had the head taken off a long time ago, and the bores are rusted.

I am looking for a good Turbo II bottom to put in there, but before I bring the car to my driveway, can someone please verify the VIN for me?

The dash plaque says it's number 038, the VIN is 1B3BZ18E4GD264279
I think from my research that it is an '86 US car, manual seat belt, turbo I with "BASE MODEL INTERIOR???" from the 1 in the 6th digit spot, is this possible? The car was built at the belvedere plant...

All the Shelby graphics are there, except for the front glass, "CS-Shelby-CS" at the top of the glass. The interior looks terrible, but I think it was all gray at one time. The strange thing is, the car comes with an extra set of rims, NO ROLL BAR???, and a full set of tinted glass. The Glass installed in the car IN NOT TINTED????WHY???????????

It has the Koni suspension, all adjustable, and other than being full of engine parts and pieces, the car seems complete. Some of the interior panels are badly faded, but I could Dye them I guess...

Isn't the car supposed to have "CS" logo seats????ROLL BAR?

What do the GLH gods have to say? Is this a worthy contender????

Tony, sounds like you have a good starting point.

all 86S's got the upgraded Omni interior w/ the cloth high back buckets, but no "CS" logos, that upholstery was used only on the Shelby Chargers.

no 86S's received a roll cage from the Shelby plant, those were installed after the cars were delivered by either dealers or owners.

86S's did not get tinted glass.

see if the block matches the VIN....look on the drivers side of the block, just below the head gasket, theres 6 digits that should match the last 6 in your VIN. if it matches, you will want to restore that block to keep the car's value.

I see you are in CT, you should join the NE-SDAC club. We are having a race day at Lebanon Valley (NY) this coming Saturday the 26th, head up and we will show you some nice 86S's and answer all your q's.

If it is the original engine, I would keep it and rebuild it, I would just want to get the car up and running. I may just be able to make it to L.V this weekend...
Thanks for the Help.

I just found a book in the glove box (under 4 dead mice) documenting 80,000 miles worth of fuel economy and service records since new. from the story I have, the car is a one owner, but there is no evidence of any engine work being done in the history, so far though, I have not found any numbers that match my vin on the side of the block, but the numbers do not look like they are stamped in very deep, either that or the sequence is fragmented, but it looks like the numbers a the end don't match my VIN anyhow. There is a another short number at the top left of the pad, looks like it is hand stamped "026", and not very well. is this significant? Unfortunately, the head is cracked between every set of valves. and the worst is, I cleaned the car out of all it's parts, and not only did I not find the engine bay computer, but under the set of glass in the front seat that I thought was an extra set of tinted glass for the car, but wasn't....I found that someone has taken the computer in the kick panel as well. I am missing a whole bunch of engine pieces, hardware and AC compressor/lines, and the computers. The bores are rusted solid, and at the very least are going to need a good oversizing.

I was not able to go to Lebanon Valley yesterday. I am hoping that you folks may have some of the pieces that I need...????

For the computer, i would look for a Stage II MP computer. It helped out my Rampage when I had it. But what condition is the engine though? Intake/engine part. The 3 parts that are highly sought after in the car are the intake, dash plaque, and the computer. If it were an 87, then the valve cover would have also been highly sought after.

The engine is trash. rusted solid. the head is cracked in between all the valves. The manifolds and turbo are there and in good shape. The V.C. is there as well. The dash plaque is there, number 038.
I am thinking about an FWD engine or other reliable short/long block supplier. I just don't have the time to do another engine build right not, or the space. Doesn't the 86 GLHS have two computers, one in the engine bay, and one in the kick panel?

So there is a way to trace the point of sale dealership when new? You wouldn't happen to have access to the list to trace the dealerships for the '87GLHS? Just curious. Thanks.

yes the glhs has a logic module under the kick panel and a power module beside the battery.

from your posts it sounds like this car needs a ton of work. you should get a set of factory service manuals (3 volume set from dodge, look on ebay for the 1986 omni manuals) before you get too deep into this project, presuming you will be doing most of the work.

all the glh turbo/omni parts, even engines, are out there so dont worry too much about that, if you have the glhs-specific stuff you should be good to go.

Just run a carfax on the cars to find the dealership that received it. That is what I did for my Daytona.

I know someone with a 1985 computer for the OMNI GLHS, it is the one that goes in the kick panel, will this work for the 1986 as well?

Nope, because the 85 would be a GLH, not a GLHS. The best way to tell if it is a T2 L-body computer, and it not being a MP aftermarket one, then it will be a CS and a number as the part number. But the 85 didn't have the same computer as the 86 GLHS.

Is it close enough to get the car running? I don't have anything now, are there differences in the connectors or pins?

The programming is different, not to mention that the computer doesn't compensate for the intercooler.
