My Shelby Lancer has rear disc brakes from the factory. They are the solid rotor type, with an internal drum style parking brake. As far as I know, they are stock.

I know that the Shelby Lancer's came stock with rear disc brakes. But wouldn't my rear discs have been the 'early' rear disc setup with the caliper mounted parking brake? Was my Shelby Lancer's rear disc brakes upgraded at some point by a previous owner or are they stock?

Nope! Unlike the rest of the '87 Shelby Zs or Pacifias that had 4 wheel disc brakes, the Shelby Lancers got the internal drum parking brake set up. There was also a Recall on them for the levers. I have the levers for my car but the dealership hasn't been able to find the instructions involving the recall. It won't matter much though in my case as I have a complete brake and suspension set up to swap onto it from an IROC R/T.

Thanks for the clarification! I was confused since my '89 Shadow had the later solid disc setup with the parking drum brake, but then I saw an '88 Shelby Z in the 'yard today that had the caliper mounted parking brake.

I'm also upgrading my Lancer's brakes. I'm upgrading to the 11" vented setup I got from a '91 GTC. They are R/T equivalent!
