info about 1987 shelby csx

This question is for anybody with or familiar with a 1987 shelby csx. My engine serial # tag that is riveted to the upper radiator core support is missing due to the rivets rotting away and my tag is long gone. I have found a guy that can make me one almost identical to the original. My question is how do I find out what letters/numbers should be on my tag for the serial # if you have a 87 csx what are the complete letters/numbers on your tag (I dont need to know your stamped in numbers only the printed ones on the tag) Thanks!!

Not sure what the common numbers are between all of the tags, but your last four stamped numbers will be 1969 I believe (year of the car (1987) minus your cars dash plaque number (18)). That's the formula for all of the other cars that I have dealt with.

I have found a local guy that can make it almost identical to the oem plate. for $12 also the exact dimensions. my local guy said that if he had the original oem plate he could scan it and make it identical, problem is I dont have a plate for him to scan.

I would look at your engine block number, Shelby ordered them all in sequence so maybe that's how he got the numbers?????

the numbers stamped on the left side of the block at the top just below where the head mates to the block are the same as the last 8 digits (i think 8 but could be last 7 or 6) of my vin #

I'm pretty sure all the '87 CSXs will have the HP42213 on the plate, as it's printed on it. The last digits that are stamped into it would be the only difference between all of the CSX plates. Since you now know how to get that number, you should be good.

I think maybe azkcar135 may have a mis-stamp on his tag. I think plymouthturismo2.2 is correct in that it should be a 4 digit number, where his is 3 digits. think they missed the "1" on his. I think his tag should say "1946", not "946"

Just tested this on my '89 CSX, it's number 365. 1989 - 365 = "1624", which is what's stamped on my tag.

That could possibly be true that they all start with HP42213 then my 3 digit #. If I could get everybody and anybody with a 87 csx to chime in on this and verify it. Only thing that does worry me is I have seen 89 csx's engine serial # plate start with different sequences. And also have 3 or 4 #s as their car #.

Well, that beginning sequence could be different on the '89 CSX cause it's a different car.

However, it would be nice if some other '87 CSX owners would verify that their tags all start with HP42213.

And I guess the 3 digit ones you see are missing the one of their digits, possibly the "1", cause someone at Shelby mis-stamped them. But that's just a guess.
