Yeah...Adams Silver 89 Shelby was mine. It was a really nice car and still I miss it. I should have never sold it, but I know Adam is having fun with it.

I have some really nice pics of the car when I owned it if anyone wants to see PM me, or Adam I will send them to you if you want.

Anthony

Well hello there Tony! Been a long time, how have things been with you? Been doing ok here. The Daytona has been undergoing a little bit of rehabilitation as of late, in fact it hasn't hit the street at all this summer because i have been working on things with it. You allready know about the 5-speed swap from our last conversation, so i'll update you as to what has happened since that time.

Firstly, 2 years ago the engine for some unexplained reason decided to spin a rod bearing on the number 2 cylinder and the other 3 were not far behind. The engine was torn down, and all new Rods, Crank, Bearings, Rings and Oil Pump were installed, the Balance Shafts were removed and the oil gally feeding them were plugged. I put in a MP Purple shaft cam in the head that really woke the engine up and was driven for the rest of that summer. The next spring I pulled the MP cam back out and put the stock one back in because the MP cam was starting to wear on the lobes. Then that summer I replaced the stock turbo because it was leaking oil and bought a turbonetics super-60 unit, injectors and computer for it and that really did a job on the performance. Later it developed a high RPM misfire and after practically rebuilding the entire ignition system as well as fixing any problems found in the wiring harness, the problem ended up being the gear teeth on the end of the intermediate shaft driving the oil pump and distributor was badly worn and wore out the oil pump gear in the process so another new oil pump and new intermediate shaft was installed and the problem went away.

This summer I decided that rebuilding the suspension was in order, It got new springs, new urethane bushings, braided steel brake hoses (brake lines will also be stainless when I get them) and I had a friend repaint the stock pumper wheels and put new firestone wide oval tires on it. While inspecting the underside I found a few spots on the floor that had rusted through in the back and along the sides and firewall so the interior was gutted and all rusted metal was cut out and new metal welded back in to pach all the holes, also I welded in some 1 1/2" steel tubing along the rocker panels from the front wheel wells to the back back wheel wells allong the rocker panels pinch welds. The interior plastic trim pieces were all repainted the factory color and the carpet was laid out flat and all stains were removed with a lot of elbow grease, looking at it now you would think the interior was straight off the assembly line, the headliner was starting to separate from the former so it was also removed and recovered, I also will be replacing the T-top gaskets and also plan on getting the car repainted, AND! I got a new cylinder head that i'm working on, a DOHC 4 valve head from a Stratus 2.4 engine that will get bolted on before it hits the streets again. Right now it sits in the driveway under a protective car cover and yes I am missing the hell out of driving it.

I think that catches us up, do you still have the same phone numbers? If so we'll have to chat sometime. If not let me know in PM and someday we can talk. Good to hear from you again, keep in touch.

DC, yes you are right, all this talk about Silver 89 Daytona's and nobody posts a pic of of one, so since i'm the one who started this thread in the first place here 12 links of pics.

Good to hear from you and the car is getting it's just attention. What you are doing is nice and the way I would have done it if I still had the car.

You can email me at the same email address.

If you want I can email you some pics of the car when I had it and so forth...let me know.

Good hearing from you otherwise..

i have one. t-tops, digi dash, the whole works. other than a bad pressure plate(i think) this thing runs, brakes and handles like new. inside looks like new other than the drivers seat which is a little worn. greay leather. inside even smells new. pretty much a paint job and thisll be once sharp car. still look pretty good w/ original paint. everything works inside also. wont have a need for it once my horizon project is done. if anyones interested PM me.

I bought my silver one new in August of 1989 from Keene Dodge in Jarrettsville, MD. I had it for about a year and a half, and then sold it to a guy that work for the county, I think in the water management office. He lived in Churchville, and I still see the car once or twice a year. He keeps it pristine, which makes me happy. It was a TII, 5spd, t-tops, analog dash with the navigator computer thingy, silver leather interior, rear window louvers, and the tonneau cover. Bone stock it turned 16.1 at Cecil County Dragway. One day when I get time to go through the boxes to find some old pictures, I'll post one.
Patrick
Oh yeah, I paid $13K for it.

Yes, I know exactly where that car is. I went to high school out that way and I also owned a silver 89 Daytona Shelby for several years.

I also worked at Keene Dodge, though I don't remember that Daytona being there, most likely because I didn't start working there until around Christmas 1989, not long after I turned 16. We had some interesting stuff come through Keene Dodge while I worked there.

That car pictured is very restoreable. I feel it always matters to you and what you want when you are done. Don't restore/fix-up one of these to make money. But don't throw away something others see as possiblities. If I am not mistaken, it is a competition package car to boot.
BTW- Another beautiful example of a silver 89 is owned by LHS2NV in the Dayton Ohio area. This is only one of his several nice cars. I saw it at SDAC-15.
