I'm currently in a debate talking about it is nearly impossible to get a 4 banger above 200 MPH at Bonniville. I presonally do think that it is that impossible considering that a stock SRT4 can do 155. So my question is what is the fastest that a TD (SRT or otherwise) has gone?

Mods: If this is in the wrong section, please move it for me

Stephane has gone 178 mph in a 1/4 mile in his charger. I suspect he could get it pretty high if he changed the gearing and went for a MPH record. He might have to reinforce his hood though

How quick is Stephane's car in the 1/4? Is it still FWD 2.2/2.5?

Nearly 8 seconds flat so far. Yes, FWD. The fastest (top speed) TD though is in the link above, the SRT did 221mph.

Stephane does ~180 in the quarter I believe, i will have to look up his slips to make sure.

Edit: I have a pic of a slip that confirms 178 on a run, i am pretty sure he has made 180 now though.

Here's a link to a vid from SDAC-16. It shows Stephane's run of 8.13 at 180.0.

The link is to the video page, click on the vid titled Stephane 8.13 to view it.

And here's a a pic of the record setting 1992 LeBaron. It ran 196 mph on Sept 21, 1994 at Bonneville. The car is currently at the WP Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills MI.

The placard states that all the performance equipment on the car were parts available from the Mopar Performance catalog. But the car did have a water to air intercooler that used ice water from an ice chest pumped through it.

Good to know. Anyone know of any other TD powered land speed cars? Doesn't have to be FWD either

Well...I saw that just recently a mopar backed srt-4 went well over 200mph...must be the one to the link someone posted. Forgot where I saw it at, but assume it's the same one (no time to look at link above)

On the same page is that '68 Barracud that went about 250mph on the MP midget race 4-cylinder engine.

The debate wasn't that it couldn't be done, just that is was nearly impossible. The agruement quickly escalated into a near shouting match. I was bringing up points like stock SRT4's do 155, Cobalt S/C's do 150, etc, but he wouldn't listen. He kept saying that 4 bangers would run out of gearing.

Stepahne went 8.04 and 180 mph, this is a quarter mile, not a top speed, hell a set of 3.0 gears and hes well over 200 mph. BTW the GM/Saturn boys just set a new LSR that Honda had for a long time. Just google Saturn/land speed record.

I emailed Bill Lambros to see what speeds he hit. He was into this a while back. Haven't heard back yet.
