I would be ok with a 6pm-ish start if that would work for everyone. That would work perfect if we want to do a cruise afterwards. It will be nice and cool.

Daniel, I thought it might be you but I wasn't sure. I have the engine, tranny and interior pulled out of the SL and I just picked up a gray leather interior for it. I am hoping to have it all together and running by November. Hope that you can make it to the BBQ next month. David

Well, I have to be to work by five, so it look like I wont be meeting you. I did leave a note on your car a couple months ago asking about your SL, and your dart. Yup, that was me . Anyways, if it is earlier I will show up, but I cant later. Either way, its no big deal.

I am the reason the meeting has been rescheduled to the third Saturday in September.

When Cindy was in Salt Lake and again at the August meeting I discussed the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association's 130 and 150 clubs. Several, especially Cory, are interested.

Both classes are for street cars and are only held during the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association's World of Speed event in September. September 12-15 2007, if the meet isn't rained out again. More on this shortly.

The 130 Club attempts are a standing mile on the Salt Flats with speed being measured at the end of the mile. If the speed is over 130 mph, but under 140 mph, twice on the same day the driver is in the 130 club. The 150 club is similar but two miles are allowed to try for a speed over 150 mph but under 160 mph. It is not as easy as it sounds, for one thing the coefficient of friction is about .6, close to that of snow, and this IS an acceleration contest.

Safety. In general a street legal car with H rated or better tires, drive shaft hoop for RWD cars and an accepted Snell helmet will pass the 130 Club technical inspection, but read the rules closely. The 150 Club requires much more safety equipment.

The 130 Club fees can be paid at the meet, there is no discount for early payment (July) like there is for all other classes. The 130 Club fee is $75.00 with a course preparation fee of $25.00 for a total of $100.00.

For more details see Usfra home page <http://www.saltflats.com/> .

One of my cars is a 1986 Dodge Shelby Charger. It was at the meeting location when Cindy visited, the red/ gold Charger. I tried for the 130 Club in 2004 and achieved a best speed of 126.8 mph. The whole meet was rained out in 2005. For the 2006 meet I ran my 1977 Dodge van (that is one reason for the 440 VAN name) in the 130 Club on Wednesday achieving a best speed of 118 mph. The Dodge Shelby Charger had just received a new engine but was having fuel delivery problems. Got it figured out Thursday, drove to the Salt Flats Friday. There was a foot of water on the course! Rained out again! I hope 2007 treats me better. The car sits about three inches lower than it did in 2004 and I have about 75 more horsepower. It is set up for the 150 Club, I will be running both.

One of the people who has been with the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association for a long time said that a few years ago there was a strong contingent of FWD Dodge people who ran in the 130 Club. He didn't remember any succeeding, the fastest ran about 128 mph. It would be great for us to have a good showing of FWD Dodges at the meet this year. Maybe some of us can be in the 130 Club.

If you can, join us for the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association meeting 7:00 PM September 5, 2007 at Totems, 538 South Redwood Road. It is very family oriented organization, the ladies are an important part of the association and many hold positions of responsibility and several sons and daughters participate, so there is no need to leave the family home although there are seldom people younger than 16 or 17. The business meeting is usually short and to the point and we have had some excellent presentations recently. After the meeting most go downstairs for food and socializing.

Driving on the Salt Flats at speed is an experience like nothing else -- just you, the car and the salt.

More on my vehicles later. It is less than two weeks to the World of Speed and there still many things to be finished.

Now that sounds like an awesome event to attend. Sadly, I won't be able to attend it this year as I've yet to get everything done to my Spirit to make it safely fast (new suspension, brakes, tires, etc). That and I've had to send my head back to Lonewolf to fix a leaking coolant channel after a port and polish/rebuild job.

Next year, definitely. Until then, somebody please take some video and pics of the event if at all possible.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it if I'm able to drive by then and be up and moving around.

Well, I am able to get in and out of my car and I should be able to make it on the 22nd. Are we meeting in the same spot? Also, I won't be there in the GTC since I can't afford to renew the tags or insure it right now. So I'll be there in the quasi TD, my Stealth.

What happened Clint?
I hope things change for me before the BBQ, I really want to go. And I say we meet in the same place just to keep it simple.

Thanks Brent. I think I will be fine. They removed all infected parts. I never had a chance to keep it under control with the blockages there. Now that it is taken care of what I was doing will keep it in remission. Right now my muscles are in atrophy and I just need to rebuild the muscles. I was bed ridden for three weeks. However, the doctors had expected me to still be in the hospital right now so I'm progressing quite quickly.

I messed up and no one caught it.

The first Saturday in September just happened.

The second Saturday is the 8th.

The third Saturday is the 15th, the last day of the World of Speed.

I was thinking that the 15th was the second Saturday, I didn't have a calendar handy.

But it looks like everyone else was thinking the same and Saturday the 22nd of September is the barbeque. I did have other plans that weekend but they changed so I can be there.

We just got back from the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association meeting and the reports are that the salt is in great condition. The primary course will probably be about seven miles, the 130 Club has it's own course.

Even if you aren't ready to run, come out and spectate. September 12-15.
