This is how I test if it is the turbo, usually they've been oil blowing smoke when I've had one go out so pull the oil supply line and put a plug in the block where the hole distribution manifold for the oil comes out, then shove a rag in the turrbo or something to keep it from spinning at idle, fire the engine up only let it idle DO NOT REV THE MOTOR UP and let it run for a 1/2 hour or so until it has had a chance to burn up anything in the exhaust system that has pooled in the pipes. You can do the same thing with the coolant lines but you will need to plug both ends meaning the in line and the return line to the block. And repeat. That will let you know if it is your turbo. But with as much smoke as you describe it usually is the turbo, heads don't normally pass that much water unless it has warped and blown the head gasket.
