The CSX-T is already sold. It's being picked up tomorrow. Hate to see it go, but it's either let it rot in my parent's backyard for two years or let someone who will take care of it buy it. I'll have to find me another td to play with when I get back state-side...

I know this notice is a little late, but this Sunday, June 29, is the local Chrysler Corporation car show at Larry Miller Dodge in Sandy.
It is always a super show with the majority of participants being 60s muscle cars, but there is a catagory for FWD cars (and PT Cruisers). It would be great if several of us participated. I will be there with my Dodge Shelby Charger and maybe the van.
I sent my flyer in with pre-registration, but, if I remember correctly, the show starts at 10 AM. Many participants show up earlier and others show up later.
I will be there with my Dodge Shelby Charger and maybe the van.
Question, call Steve Hinkely at 553-5960.

Last Saturday, June 21, I competed in the Bonneville 100.
It wasn't as planned. The little 1986 Dodge Shelby Charger was having fuel delivery problems. It seemed OK when I did a little testing Thursday, but getting ready to load it on the tow dolly Friday morning it was obvious the engine wasn't going to complete two miles. Excessively lean. I checked a lot of things, but I was running out of time. 10 AM and the Charger was still not right.
Back up plan. Run the van. My full-size 1977 Dodge 3/4 ton van with a 440.
Because of the 130 Club runs on the salt flats, the van was ready to pass race inspection. Except for the front tires. For the Touring Division they need to be H-rated, minimum. The tires I ran on the salt were perfectly OK for one mile, but are too old to pass inspection for the 101 miles of the Bonneville 100. Besides they are now mounted on another car. I needed new tires.
I ran down to The Tire Factory, less than a mile from my house. They have always treated me well but this time they went above and beyond. One of the counter men made a special trip to the warehouse just to pick up my two tires! I ran home, packed and went back. He arrive about a minute after I did. They unloaded, mounted, balanced and installed the tires and I was on my was to Wendover at about 11:20 AM. Registration and tech inspection close at 1:00 PM. Pacific Time. (Although Wendover is on Mountain Time, because the race is south out of Wendover all race activities are on Pacific Time.)
I was at registration in the Nugget at 11:45 Pacific Time, the last one to register. I had to change vehicles, division and class so we had to change some forms and make a new ID tag in addition to completing the normal paperwork. Then down to inspection. Passed, no problems.
The Bonneville 100 is an open road rally on US 93 Alt. where entrants pick a division based on safety equipment and a speed class within the division. The van had to run in the Touring Class -- 95, 100, 105 and 115 mph. I had run most of 90 on the way to Wendover, I needed more of a challenge. I entered the 105 class.
There was the mandatory drivers meeting Friday night which, with all the warnings and the untested vehicle, made me nervous.
Saturday morning we pre-girded at the Nevada Welcome Center then moved down US 93 Alt to grid. Then waited. A fire truck wouldn't start! Almost an hour later, when the truck was finally in position -- at the south end of the course, naturally -- the runs began. We run the race in two legs, 51.65 miles south, shut down and cool off for a few more miles -- at the legal speed limit -- to Lages Junction. When every one is done with the southbound leg, we re-grid and head back to Wendover -- 49.95 miles. 101.60 miles total.
So, how did the big-old, non-aerodynamic van do? Third place in class averaging about 104.95. There are three proper speed traps with timing lights, southbound, northbound and at the northbound finish. I was conservative because I wasn't absolutely sure of the speedometer error (can’t run over 124 mph in the Touring Division) and ran the first trap at 120.5 mph -- at less than half throttle. Coming back I had quite a headwind, didn't start accelerating soon enough and actually used full throttle for the only time during the run, but only managed 119.5 mph. Hit the trap at the finish line at 117.5, again being a little too conservative and not accelerating soon enough.
Not a run in the Dodge Shelby Charger in the Grand Touring Division and the 115 mph Class, but great fun and the big, old van received a lot of positive attention.

Hm... i may show up for spectating. Never been to a strictly Chrysler show. Don't think I'll enter My Daytona in any car shows till I get a paint job. Till then, no car show for me.

LOTS!!
I wanted to put 20 gallons in before I left, the tank was almost empty, but my card maxed out at $76.00, about 18 gallons. Then in Wendover I added 10 for the race and 10 to get home. Had a little more gas then I started with, so, about 35 gallons.
Despite the high cost, racing the van was a lot more fun than forfeiting the entry fee.

I just got back into town tonight, but I plan to be at the show on sunday. I know the R/T will be there for sure. I hope I can figure out the map sensor issue in the omni tomorrow and still have time to clean up both cars for the show. Hope to see a few more of you guys there this year. I think we had a decent turnout last year, maybe this year will be even better!
