I wish I could bring something new, but I was told I couldn't bid on something. I guess Melinda gets the next vehicle.
I guess the next meeting is on the 12th. Where? I don't know. Any ideas?

Yeah we will see if I pick one of the vehicles I am looking at up or not by the meet, it is still up in the air. But it is not turbo and not a four cylinder, it is still a Mopar though and has lots of power.
Should we go somewhere in Maple Grove again? Maybe a Famous Daves or Granite City?

Granite City went well 'cause we got lucky. You need to tell them how many people and it doesn't work well if you don't have a garunteed number of people or known name to put the table under.
Famous Daves would work, or else Bostons is right across the parking lot from Granite City and they have an open bar area and fantastic food!!

They're highback seats.

April 12th meeting will be at Boston's in Maple Grove at 1:30
Boston's The Gourmet Pizza - Restaurant Pages - Maple Grove
It's right across from Granite City so we should all have no problem finding it! Right?

Is the 87 in your driveway?
I think I should be able to find that place. Now that I know where Granite City is. Hopefully, I'll be driving my GTC by that time. I'm going to try and get the tranny switched this weekend. Always fun owning a TD.

It's hit or miss where the car is...It will be in the driveway more often when my '89 get to my brother's.
I did a compression test on the '87 today. Pistons 1 and 3 only show about 50psi, while 2 and 4 get a solid 100+psi.
With the PCV problem I can only assume bad rings.
What do you guys thing about replacing pistons with the engine in the car? Pistons are cheap.
BTW - I don't think I'm gonna keep the car more than a couple months. I'm gonna finish it and make it really nice, and sell it for a little profit. I think I already have a buyer. I think I'de rather drive the truck and spend the money on my '89.

It looks like I'll be "turbo'd" at the meeting. I got the new tranny in my GTC Friday. It seems to work great. That made that cold windy day in Dec/06 worthwhile. I questioned myself back then why I'm at a salvage yard, pulling a tranny I don't even need. Well, even a 555 doesn't last forever.
Next weekend I get my new clutch set for #654

As far as replacing pistons with the engine in the car-- yes, it can and has been done successfully before, but I'd suspect that there will be an issue with the cylinder walls also. If you leave the oil cap on the valve cover loose, and then goose the throttle, the oil cap should jump up. If not, there is a chance a bad valve is causing that issue and not pistons/rings.
On the other hand, about a couple years ago I put an engine together that had all six cylinder walls scuffed pretty badly. Seeing that not only was I doing this to make a couple extra bucks, it was also a learning thing. What happens when I 2-stage glaze break beat up cylinder walls and shove new pistons/rings in there? Maybe different style piston rings would have made a difference, but this thing ran and sounded absolutely perfectly awesome, had no excess crankcase pressure, and I personally drove it hard for 15,000 miles and sold it to a co-worker's daughter and it still runs to this day. If there was any engine I put together that I thought would have piston ring issues, this was the one.

I don't think I'm going to hang on to this car. If I can replace the pistons without removing the engine, headgasket, exhaust and some trinkets...as well as install the suspension that previous owner provided me with, then I can still sell it for a profit.
If I can get this car into to tip top shape, I think I could set it at a $3000 obo. and quickly get my '89 painted and off the rotisserie.
The '89 has been Media Blasted and primed...I got a bunch of pictures:
The body work begins...
