Another race fell in my lap.....

My friend just bought an '05 Mustang GT. Already equipped with a 300 hp 4.6 and a 5 spd, it's been upgraded with a K&N CAI, Steeda short throw shifter, MagnaFlow exhaust and a tune.

Since the race with the SC Harley F150, the Lancer really showed it was a legitimate player. A Mustang vs Lancer race was inevitable. We went out (and brought a camera!) to an empty stretch of level, open road.....

First off- until I get some traction I'm never going to win these races "off the line." We raced several different ways- from a dead stop, from a roll with various speeds. I tried a slow roll in 2nd gear to see if that would help traction but that took too long to spool up etc. So this video was the best race where my traction was somewhat decent (the screeching is all me) and we both went through all gears. (1- 4th) Started at about 15 mph and went to 120 or so. I was redlined in 4th gear then let off. I felt my car did well and this shows it has a better weight to power ratio but this skinny-tired-one-wheel-peel thing is killing me!

one wheel peel is easy to eliminate. It's an 88 LS right? My favorite setup is the 89/90 kmember and A-arms with Energy Suspension bushings. But if you want to keep the pre-88 stub strut stuff then get some pre-91 caravan a-arms. They're the same with extra bracing underneath. Use energy suspension a-arm bushings as well. Now the big key is modding the sway bar so it moves with the suspension and doesn't bind up in the stock bushings causing one tire to go lighter than the other.

Here's how. Sway Bar End Links

Just the stock size that fits a Neon SRT4. Some Falkens I believe. Definitely gonna get drag radials when they wear out.

Can't tell in the videos, but does your car squat really bad on launch? Poor rear shocks won't help launching and during shifts.

It has nearly new KYBs in the back. I think tire width (6" I believe) is the most limiting factor. Some wider, stickier tires should help immensely. As it stands I'm very happy with my Lancer and think it did quite well as it slowly kept reeling him in 'til we were side-by-side.

About 18psi I believe. Not the best gauge in the world. Changed the spark plugs today and it runs noticeably better.

My ticket for street racing was $200. And I was in my Dakota r/t flew past the cop didn't even see him then my speed limiter kicked in at 118. And next thing I know I look back at the Chevy pickup I beat in the rear view and I see cop lights, I was so far ahead I thought about running cause my house so was close but I was like **** it. Cop said he pulled me over instead of the Chevy pickup cause I won.
