I was on the way to work this morning. I was behind several cars on a on-ramp to highway that spins you around 270 degrees. I can easily take it at 65 mph per the speed limit, but not with cars in front of me going 20 mph.

I am relaxed no rush, several car lengths in front, when a VW Passat come roaring up behind me and just about parks it on my bumper, WTF.

So the ramp comes around the full 270 degrees I drop from 3rd to first and get up to 75 mph in heart beat leaving S-head with his tongue hanging out. A minute later I see him finally catching up, mind you I am cruising at 75, and were going down hill. I'm thinking their tank needs all the help he can get, but I look in front of me and the road is wide open for at least two miles on three lanes. I give a little gas keeping him about 10 car lengths back. I do this for about 1/2 mile, but he's staying with me. So, I quickly had enough of this, drop it to 4th, and then back into 5th, I let back off it at 145. The VW was over a 1/2 mile back, and I was just coming back into traffic, so I dropped it back down to 75. The a-hole comes flying up on my butt, swerves two lanes over narrowly missing a truck, a camper, and two other cars. It keeps going for another 300 yards, before they get some brains
Some people just don't get it when they get crushed!!!

they feel like they have to gain back there dignity, but they dont realise that be doing the "ricer" fly by, they just get laughed at worse!, that, or they need to keep going cause if they end up beside you at the next light, theyle have to look you in the face as a sore looser! ricer fly bys bug me. i DO love though that most guys on the road here that are willing to race are so predictable. when im driving with my wife, its almost more fun to play "predict what the ricer will do now" than it is to actualy race him.

My friend's whife has a Passat, a 1.8t car. It has a turbo back exhaust, bov, FM intercooler, intake and a tune. She thinks the cars a race car. We were out together the other night and she wanted to run me. We ran from a stoplight and I really didnt think she got on it!! I thought she was just playing around but I would have three cars on her at 50mph!! It was sad how much money she had in that car and how I smoked her in a car that cost as much as her wheels!!! I love TD's!!

The stock K03 turbo on the 1.8T's is a joke.

I have been a TD owner for more than 20 years, building/restoring/enjoying them all along. But I also have two young kids, had my daughter in my 2.5 s60 Shelby Lancer for a few months before I accepted that she would be much safer in a modern airbag car . Enter my 2002 1.8T Passat, safe reliable and pretty quick stock. Since I can't leave anything stock, it was upgraded with KW V2 coil adjustable coil overs, bigger rear bar, full 2.5 SS mandrel exhaust from the downpipe back, GIAC 17PSI ECU and tiptronic trans chip, forge BOV and lots of little things. It runs every day all day AC going in stop and go SoCal traffic. The only issue is it eats coil packs. I'm on #11 and just keep a spare in the trunk, when it starts to run on 3cyls, I just pop the new one onto the different plugs until all four are hitting again Since I drive all over three counties for a living my 5 year old Passat now has 125K miles. I cant imagine having subjected any of my 20year old TD's to this kind of duty day in and day out. So hate the Pasat driver if they are a tool but dont hate the car The Passat will be gone by this time next year and I'll still have my weekend TD's Passat wil be replaced by another VW/AG product that has twin turbos and can tow 8,000lbs. Sweet no?

BTW with all the mods my Passat made 189WHP, short of changing to a real turbo, I think that is about the limit.
