There are some rivalries that are inherently strong, i.e....Baltimore vs Pittsburg, USA vs Puerto Rico and for us Spirit R/T owns...............The Ford Taurus SuperHighOutput. When your car (the Spirit) was produced to take away the title (fastest sedan) and does, their will be "bad blood". That being said.....................

I was on my way to the airport this morning when I ran over - correction - ran across a blue first gen SHO. I saw him about a 1/4 mile in front of me and caught. Now, usually SHO owner i've run across aren't aware of the "beef" between our car.........this was a different story. As I pulled along side and even with him on the 2 lane highway, he glanced over at my car and I noticed he down shifted sneekingly. Older gentelman wearing a "advanced auto parts" shirt. I proceeded to down shift and then I opened my cut-out, let the a$$ whopping commence. This was not a race - it was a slaughter. The beltway was empty, just us and two lanes. I pulled a good 10 cars on him by the top of 4th but he was "trying" to keep up.

I have beaten plenty other faster cars but none other felt so fulfilling. I felt so proud, so honored to be able to "do" mother MOPAR so proud. LONG LIVE THE R/T

nice work!
SHO's aren't slugs
I replaced 2 axle shafts out of one once.
The guy had dumped the clutch at 7k and proceeded to twist both axles

Oh man, I remember getting my electronic cutout for my neon. 2.0L DOHC w/ a long tube and straight out from there. Was retarded loud. You could hear it for over a mile easily! And the rumble it put in the cab...

I sure do miss that Luckily I put a cutout on my van. Just no electronic one.

I am thinking about doing a cut out on my car. 3 inch all the way back and a cut out off the down pipe =)
That would be SWEET!

Nice kill. I never got to race a SHO in my R/T. I’m sure it would have been comical.

SHOs are so overrated, considering Dodge/Chrysler was making FWD sedans/coupes that would stay door to door with them stock vs. stock since the mid 80’s. When the R/T came around and raped the SHO, stock for stock, it got no love. Why is it that I knew about the SHO since ’89 but never even heard of a Spirit R/T until late 2003? That is BS.

I have the original Car and Driver road test (March 1991) that put the Sprit R/T head to head with the SHO and Z34 (even bigger joke) if anyone hasn’t seen it. I need to scan it now that I have a scanner. God bless the young woman from whom I bought my R/T for 1) even having the magazine and 2) keeping it in such good condition.

Very nice. There is a mean turbo/twin turbo? SHO floating around where I work. Never been along side of him. But he drives by my work all the time giving it hell. Huge front mount. And loud ass blow off! But I haven't seen him for a month or so. Wonder if he broke it.

I have driven BOTH SHO's and Spirit R/T's. I like both cars, truthfully. They both have their plusses and minuses. The Spirit R/T is, overall, a more robust car(given the head doesn't mess up), but both can make some HUGE numbers and go very fast! I remember a magazine article from the late '90's that featured an SHO with a built engine that would spin 10,000 rpm reliably!!! NO Spirit R/T could do that! Now truthfully, the question arises as to WHY you would want to spin it up that fast, but hey, it's pretty friggin cool anyways! I know of a few turboed SHO's that can really put some numbers down too. There was a black one running around Jax for a while that was putting 400+ to the wheels.

My only REAL complaint about the SHO's are the fragile trannies and the REALLY crappy shifters! I have NO idea how in the world the magazines and car shows could complain about the Spirit R/T's shifter whent here was that huge POS out there! Seriously...you NEED a person in the backseat to get it to 2nd and 4th gear! The throw is THAT long! You also have to watch out for the unpredictable torque steer. It's not like a TD where you KNOW which wheel is going to spin every time...the SHO makes you guess..and then it might change its mind when you shift gears!

Both cars are cool sleepers. They both have *exotic* parts on them that can be hard to find and can be expensive. They both have cult followings and are respected by those that know what they are. The reason you don't hear that much about the R/T is the *VERY* limited production of them. Compared to the SHO they only made a handful of R/T's, and for only 2 years! The SHO went from '89-'98 or so I think(in different forms, the later V8 being kinda crappy).

I suppose that becuase I'm a TD'r I *should* hold the grudge, but honestly, becuase of my experience with both, I just can't do it. Unless the owner of the other car is beinf a jerk, I see no point.....

I *should* share the story about the SHO that stalked my buddy's R/T for about 6 months or so. He would always be in the same parking lot where we all met up on saturday nights. We TRIED to get him to race the R/T, but he wouldn't do it! I *think* we did catch himone time on the road and we gave it a go...the R/T smoked him! However, the R/T was also putting about 250hp to the wheels! LOL

When I used to live in Mt. Clemens Mich., I used to frequent Gratiot Ave. in Roseville. (Lots of stories there!). There was some clown in a SHO that was always looking for someone to try him out. Everytime I took "Ol' Blue" out on the weekends, there was old shit-for-brains picking on victims. After him witnessing my slaughter of a Saleen 'Rustang, he should have known better, but dogged me anyway. From a dead-dig, I had 8 cars on him before 3rd gear. When I pulled into the coffee shop to get a donut, guess who arrived?
He was beside himself with anger, spouting numerous excuses for what had taken place. My buds tried to calm him down, to no avail. He wanted to go from a roll this time. I even took a passenger along for a witness, and as added ballast- no excuses this time. We headed for the service drive. From a 20 roll he briefly pulled a car on me. As the boost came on, I quickly pulled away from him. He then wanted to try from a 40 roll, 60 roll etc. It only got worse for him. Went back to the donut shop, and his excuse then was that his bottle had gone empty ! I myself couldn't believe he had a 100-shot and I stomped him that bad. SHO' wasn't his night. He never would play with me after that. I got free coffee the rest of the night!
