Honda reliability... bah! Marketing speak. They break just the same as everyone else's rides.
anyways... SRT-4. I put a deposit on one before they were available, but changed my mind before I took delivery, once I drove a buddy's. Just one of those things, didn't suit me. Didn't care for the 4-dr, sport-compact boy-racer thing. I prefer a sexy, low-slung coupe. Guess I really am more 'mature'.
The other thing being that I'm 6'3" and the Viper seats didn't work. I appreciate the bolstering, but it just hit my body in all the wrong places; shoulder support in the armpits, etc. much like most Aisian cars fit me.
The TJ is great for a DD in the congestion of the city, and the R/T for those highway jaunts.
Take one for a drive, for a good 30 minutes at least, and see for yourself.

SRT-4's have been very reliable cars. I like them and its the closest thing I could find to my Daytona which I absolutely love. Next favorite car has been my 2nd gen Chrysler LH cars....boring, but funner to drive than I thought not to forget comfortable. 28 mpg and a great car.
Depending on which statistics you look at, the domestic auto manufacturers are actually beating the imports right now as far as reliability goes.
I just love it when people complain about jobs being outsourced, yet they own a Honda, toyota, Saab, Volkswagen, etc. hmmmm. Way to keep the job market in America.

Def get an SRT-4. I love mine. Ive had it since it had 3800 miles on it, now almost at 21k, only problem has been a broken boost gauge which they fixed with no issues. Plus, the SRT responds awesome to mods. I own 2- TIII cars and the SRT would eat them both. Very fun car to drive.

Not only will the gas milage be better, but I need something quicker and more fun. Are the SRT's really worth all the hype? Are they reliable? If I buy one it will have to be a blue 04 with ZERO mods and under 60K on it. So, are they worth it??

I live in Pennsylvania so the winters can be pretty crappy here too. I have an 05 SRT-4 that I use only in the summer time but as a daily driver. I've got just over 12,000 miles on it and I can say that so far I am very impressed. It's always fun to drive and the only issues I've had so far were very minor. I.E. I had to have a rattle in the drivers door tightened up. Everything else I've needed to repair was because pennsylvania has terrible roads that beat the ever living piss out of anything you drive. Considering that most of my driving is pulling large hills or mountains I'd have to say that the gas milage is pretty impressive as well. If you want one that wasn't beaten on that's NOT new, you'll have to do some looking, but if you can find it, it's definately worth it. Just definately keep a winter car around. These are so not snow cars!
GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN

I would definetly say my 04 srt is the best car I hav ever owned as far as reliability goes. 3600miles and ZERO issues. That being said, you cannot go by other peoples opinions of the car. You have to love a car in order to want to drive it everyday. If you have the ability to borrow one or rent one for a week to try it out, I would go that route. This car is not for everyone. I am only 5'10" and the car fits fine. My best friend is 6'2" and has a hard time getting in and out especially the driver's seat.
As for fun, it rulz! Almost, (and I mean almost) as much fun as my 91 spirit r/t was but that was pretty modded out. My srt is stock and hauls butt. Excellent daily driver. And as for the stiff ride, you said you were looking for a sports-everyday car. if that is what you want than any real sports car will have a pretty stiff suspension. I have no complaints with it.
Like I said I have had no mechanical problems with mine and I beat on it several times everyday. The only issue I have had is one of the pedal rubber things fell off after about 1000 miles. I even got over 30,000 miles out of the stock tires before replacing them, (they were balder than snot). I know other people have had problems with theirs but you will find that on EVERY car. Think of it this way, why would you complain if you had no problems with it; so the squeaky wheel gets the oil metaphore fits. I would try and find a factory leftover 05 or maybe, if your lucky, 04. The prices have come down and will likely continue to drop once the caliber srt comes out. I have seen new ones or nearly new ones like test-drive cars with less than 2000 miles on them for about 16000 if you really shop arround. That is a whole lot of car with warranty for that price.
Like I said, in the end it has to be a car you want to drive and in the end it is your decision. This is my $0.02.
Good luck,
-Bryan

Well you can add at least a bad axle boot to my long list of problems with mine. About 2 weeks ago it was making a squeaking noise when you get on the throttle and also when you let off it. I brought it in to my 5 star dealer and they said "No problem found." The squeaking noise started to turn into a clunking noise so I decided to take a look. I took me about 10 seconds to find the problem. There is axle grease everywhere around the passenger side axle boot. It is all over the alternator and I think it got on the belts too because they sqeak now. What are the odds that they will care why the axle failed? They will probably put in a new axle and call it a day. I have a feeling that the lower engine mount is bad and that's what was causing the squeak. It would also cause the boot to hit the frame and wear away the boot. This time I am making sure my neighbor, who is a tech there, does the work on my car from now on.

I guess I was right. You can add a busted lower motor mount to my list of problems.

My 03 SRT-4 also had the boost gauge go bad, went from saying 15 or so, to saying 12 or 13 in Oct, they replaced it, now it says max of 7 or 8 (back in May) And they say that is right. It pulls hard tho. Also had bad r/f wheel bearing, both were fixed through the spendy $2200 Complete Care warranty. Still has a slight shake, and the wheels are in balance. It also had I think a plastic thing on the package tray area, right by the speakers, I think something for a baby seat? Anyway, that little thing was broke, they fixed, it sounded like a blown rear speaker, the viberation! My wife hates the Viper seats, me, I'm only 5'6 but stout, so I put the seat back, get in, put it forward. I drove an 05 with the other seats, yeah, ok for getting in and out, or a long trip, not the same in the corners! Maybe I will take out the passenger seat, for a standard one, and save the Viper one. Viper ones great for driving around corners. Not too bad on gas (contrary to what one auto mag wrote) Wife doesn't like the exhaust, doesn't seem to bother me, maybe a reason to put a 3" system on it! Another guy who also has a black 04 where I used to live drove it in the winter, but I won't drive mine if there is snow and I can help it-in the 4x4 I go. I'm kicking myself tho cause I shoulda just got the 04 or 05, with the extra 15 horses, more torque, earlier in the rpm, and the Quaife for traction. I still have my Daytonas, and and feel more comfortable in them. Just my 2 cents

Does everybody elses gas gauge drop to fast, I mean to the point where you think it is on empty, or close, and you only put in 7 gallons, instead of 9 or 10, 12 if you run it dry? Forgot to mention, they changed the sensor in my tank, no differance, gauge is still the same. And I didn't buy mine to haul people around in the back, but, compared to the others in it's class, the SRT-4 has plenty room. My Daytona? Anyone over 4'10 is crowded when they sit in the back. That's ok, just me and the wife anyway.

My car has been the best, most reliable car I've ever owned. I've had two issues since I bought the car, a broken seatbelt latch and a wavering speedo at 60-70mpg. The speedo turned out to be a pcm and since I had stage1 I was stuck, and the belt was ordered and replaced. It seems to be hit or miss, some people have issues while others are completely in the clear.
My gas guage falls slowly till about 1/2 tank then more quickly after that. After 2-1/2 years I'm just used to it at this point.
