I think this is pretty self explanatory. I have a 1996 dodge stratus 2.0L SOHC 5 speed. I know of a 2.4 turbo motor for sale out of a wrecked 2005 PT cruiser. The motor is complete, ECU is included in sale. I have heard of first generation stratus models w/ turbos sold in mexico. I assume this will fit.

How complicated would this swap be.
Will it bolt up to the transmission ?
Are the motor mounts the same as other 2.4 motors?
What would the hardest part of this swap be?

The engine has 35,000 miles on it, what do you think it is worth? I don't want to pay to much?

Are you sure they were 1st generation turbos? I only knew of the 2nd gen turbos. First, I would definitely browse around here:

http://www.stratusphere.net

I don't know about motor mounts on the PT, but if they're the same as the SRT-4 setup, it's gonna take quite some work. Wiring will most likely be an absolute nightmare unless you go standalone management. One thing that I've read over on Stratusphere is that you need to massage the firewall a good amount to get enough clearance for the turbo. Definitely check on those forums though. There are people that have done it.

I dont know about the motor mounts of the PT, but I guess they are mostly the same as the SRT...

At least you can use the AEM ECU as a direct bolt for the Management
or eitherway you can choose the Megasquirt.

Definitely good info, Nick (nstenz) has helped me with info for my own 2.4 build. But remember, his is not a 2nd gen motor. That's still the 1gn motor. All the cars that got the 1gn motor had very similar mounts. The 2nd gen 2.4 had at least two mount configurations... which were nothing like eachother.

Just saw the link to my page from here...

The '05 PT block is basically the same as the 1G Stratus block- just a little beefier. Stratus 2.4L engine mounts will work fine.

Wiring in the PT electronics is more trouble than it's worth. The '96 computer can't read the '05 crank sensor though, which leaves you 2 choices- standalone spark and fuel (MegaSquirt is my choice), or a pre-'03 crankshaft and sensor.

I think the PT clutch fits in a Stratus/Neon manual transmission fine. I don't think the automatic can handle the torque without a lot of beefing up (total rebuild).

The turbo won't fit though. You'd have to get an aftermarket turbo manifold for the 2G head (round exhaust ports? or are they rectangular?) that clears the Stratus firewall as well. There's a member on Stratusphere and 2GSS.org working on selling a kit for the 2G sedan w/2.4L- whatever turbo/manifold combo he's using should fit.

You can fit turbo on 1G stratus . I got GT35R under my hood with few other toys. You'll need custom manifold and exhaust for that. If you'll use small turbo (T3) , you can fit it on some aftermarket manifolds. For something serious you'll got to go custom.
Trigger wheel on late PT/Gt block can be replaced with older ( custom ) wheel. I use GT block with custom wheel on my car.
Custum manifold will be last thing for you to worry about if you seriously trying to boost your car. Big turbo = new engine internals , and not Eagle and JE , something better and more expensive. Also, = new , better fuel system and fuel management system , bigger radiator , big IC , ignition control e.t.c.

You dont have to go with GT/SRT 4 block. New block maybe just 5% -10% better (crank oil squirters and head ports). If you going for something big , like 400+ hp ,you'll do your head anyway , so , with bigger oil pan and good internals you dont have to worry about squirters.
Also, GT block got crank sensor on the front of the block , not on the back as on older block , and , it rite under starter and front engine mount ,so you'll have to modify your front mount and shave off some metall from the block to fit your old sensor properly. Without proper fit you'll have no power for the fuel pump , injectors and ignition. Entire ECU depends on crank signal.

Have fun.
You dont want to know how long and how much money it took me to make 500+ whp.
If you need custom intake manifold , let me know , I got my older manifold for sale. Also , old 2.4L engine with just 37 000 ml on it ( pulled it out of my car back in 2001 when swapped for my first turbo engine ) , and , new set of SRT4 lifters.

Something easier might be keeping your 2.0L and swapping on a factory turbo from a 2.4L. See my classified ad!

all the motor mounts and accessories will have to be changed it will bolt to the trans. it would be easy to get it in. it think most of the mounts and accessories that you already have will work if not you will have to get them off a 2.4 DOHC stratus. wiring may be a bit of pain but can be done. if your using the pt ECU be sure it's for a manual transmission.

A lot of the folks over on the Neon boards are putting in the srt pistons and rods into the older 2.4 blocks. This gives you the old crank which can be read by the ecu.

Just a heads up. The DCR guys over on the srt4forums have installed the older avenger head on a srt4 block. With doing that the turbo is in the front of the engine bay.
