My friend wants an SRT bad. He has had neon ACR, a base, and R/T and has an SXT now (which sucks). He can take out a loan any buy one (hes 5th on the waiting list) or work on a TD like all of us. Is it possible to make a k-car as fast or faster than a new SRT while still spending less money? Im thinking for 15 grand he can practically build a streetable Relentless. Insurance is also a factor. Thanks for your thoughts.

LoL!

First of all, 15 grand? The SRT is 20grand!

I assume you mean 5grand for the TD plus 15 grand in mods?

Like a TD would cost 5 grand!!

More like. 2 grand + 18grand in mods.

Well, guess what? If you did every mod KNOWN to the TD universe, *it would still not add up to 18 grand*.

You can do every SOHC mod in the book, from trans with quaife, to head porting, to complete new race built bottom end for 8 grand. (and that is way more than most people spend)

It would then not be "as fast as an srt" but more like "faster than a viper".

You can find a GLHS or any TD in good shape, and make it faster than an SRT for less than 10K. Much less, I think. Not a Relentless by any means, but keep in mind, Relentless will suck the headlights out of an SRT.

maybe engine/tranny yes.. but suspension and all the other tiny details add up fast. I have about 8000 in mods in my shadow and i'm just starting... and yes it will be practically a streetable relentless (with alot of tiresmoke)

"The Thrill of 132 horses under your foot" lol.. what a joke.

It wouldn't be very difficult to build a Turbo Dodge to Neon SRT-4 specs for under $20,000.. in fact.. you would be hard pressed to break $5k if you know what your doing. Gary Donovan's Daytona T2 was running 13's for under $1,000.

if you had supra or RX-7 Money... you would have one of the Fastest if not THE FASTEST street TD and one of the best handling ones too boot, just think

1. TD Car = 50 to 5k depending on the car
2. Fully Built Bottom End = 2.5k
3. Ulimate flow 8v = 2k
4. Custom exhaust header = 800
5. Spearco cooler = 1k
6. T3/T4 Hybrid = 1.5k
7. Konis = 600
8. Ground Control Coilovers = 400
9. Poly bushing and sway bars = 500
10. 568 with 523 ratios and posi = 700
11. Brake Upgrades = 500
12. Rollcage = 500
13. Custom Cal, Injectors, 3bar, and fuel pump = 600
14. 3 inch exhaust = 300
15. Lightweight rims and G-Force tires = 2k

It's really not that much for an Ultra performance car... think about all that stuff in a GLH-S or an GLH-T that sucka would FLY!!!

That description sounds familiar. GLHT, brakes, koni's, gc's, 3", poly, sway bar, etc etc... very familiar in fact.

Except the "ultimate flow 8v part". No 8v's here!

Oh, and for the 568 with 523 final gear and Posi. It actually costs 1500$, not 700$ if you go with a quaife. Trust me.

Of course they do, you just have to spend your money in the right places. As for a streetable "relentless", without totally stripping your car out, I dont see that happening with an 8v 2.5 combo.

I think I got him! We are looking for Daytona R/T's or Daytona TII's. He thinks he can find an R/T for cheap We'll see.

You won't find a daytona iroc r/t for cheap, but you will, if you look carefully, find a 91 spirit r/t for cheap.

*WARNING*: The T3 is not for beginners.

folks is it really fair, or smart, to compare the cost of any brand new car with the cost of a used car modified to beat the new car?

i mean, there are so many other attributes/benefits to buying a new srt-4, at 20k, than buying a 2k used car and pumping in 18k into it. and i suspect most all of you know what i am referring to.

this analysis i see in this thread might be fun just to bat around but none of you can be serious about this comparison, right?

this is literally the definition of an apples to oranges comparison.
