I have been getting this strange vibration at 15-20mph. The main reason it is so noticable is because when it happens, something in the dash makes a plasticy buzzing sound.. like a loose fastener or something. The buzzing is comming from somewhere in the driver's side pilar and or dash area.

Imnot sure if maybe it is the tires causing the problem. It would seem like that would be too low of a speed for an imbalance problem to show... but the noise seems to be in unison with the "womp womp womp" noise that the damn BFG's make. The tire tread is severely feathered... do you think this could be causing the vibration? It's always at about 18mph, whether i am coasting, braking, decelerationg, wether the clutch is in our out, or in any gear.

I have the same annoying buzz on the drivers side of the dash, but I don't
recall what speed it's at.
I've had it since I drove it off the lot.
Sounds to me like it's coming out of the speaker.
But just the usual wheel shake at 45 MPH here.

Sounds like you both have a tire or tires with shifted belts. 15-20mph with extreme feathering is gonna sound like a bad bearing. whirring or growling. if your getting a "whomp whomp" and it seems like it's once per revolution, I'd have a tire shop stick it on a balancer and spin it. watch for out of roundness as it rotates.
45 MPH is quite possibly the same thing, just not as noticeable at low speeds. If by wheel shake you mean the steering wheel that is.

Mike, some folks have reported that replacing broken axles amazingly cleared up a vib issue they had had for quite a while.

Not saying you have an incipient axle failure on your hands, but it is food for thought.

A bad axle, or cv joint, is going to "wobble" during acceleration and hard deceleration, not constantly like contraption has stated.

Most tire shops are going to check the wheel and tire for free because they want you to buy tires from them. Just make sure you are out there watching for yourself. Some guys don't notice or just don't know what to look for... -J

ohh.....well looking in my handy dandy srt-4 manual, i found.....
tire pressure, incorrect front or rear toe, worn wheel bearings, worn control arm bushing, excessive friction in steering gear or shaft coupling or excessive friction in strut upper bearing....page 2-53 in the suspension manual....

Mike,
mine turned out to be a slightly bent rim...which apparently our SRT4 rims do fairly easily.
I took it to a wheel repair shop, and had them check it on a wheel machine that checks dynamic balance, and it was found...they repaired and rebalanced, then she was fine!!

I fixed the problem.. well not fixed... but found narrowed it down to the tires themselves. I swapped on my Neon ES wheels with Goodyear Eagle LS tires and all noise and vibration dissappeard.

do (did) you have the stock BFs on still?

they are a production line verson of the retail version...and i've heard others with similar "mystery" vibration issues with them

still wouldn't hurt to have a repair shop check the wheels for run-out and dynamic balance...mine did it for free...and that was found after the tire shop had re-balanced them 3 times!!

I have aftermarket wheels and the stock BFG tires. I had to put them back on today.. and it is back to vibrating and sounding like a mudbogging truck.

Does this imply that the retail version of these tires are better?

Do your aftermarket wheels require hub-centric rings? If so, do you have them? If you're not sure, measure the hub bore of the wheel and compare it to the hub diameter on the car...

Nice excerpt, but what symptoms did the manual state these problems would cause??? Excessive turning effort? Alignment pull problems? The only thing in your post that would give a constant noise or vibration is a bad wheel bearing... and that would change pitch or intensity when turning in different directions... Re-read your manual kiddo...

Yup they do require the rings, and yes i have them. Its the tires. Trust me. You can feel an 1/8" higher edge on the leading edge of each tread block.
