I decided I may as well start a new thread to cover these. The shafts I had made are designed to use standard 8V rollers & needle bearings. they are a slip-fit in the rocker, unlike the factory press-fit. I don't know any price, since I don't know what my samples are going to cost me. I think it's a viable repair, I guess I'll know when I get my car on the road sometime next month.

That might just work! If you need someone to make a big run of them I have a buddy that owns a CNC screw machine shop that builds all kinds of stuff like that. If we were to make like 500 they would be like 2 bucks each or something like that. LMK how it works out and if it will be the fix we all were waiting for

P.S. That rocker looks a little scored inside where it rides on the shaft

It is a little scored, I used one of my more worn castings for the trial & error of making it.

Ray,
You are getting the R/T on the road next month?!

Dude, you have to stop by Omaha and give my wife and I a ride. I'll bring my LM-1 wideband (the tail pipe clip-on type) so we can check your WOT AFRs under 20psi boost.

Edit: I'd also like to run you sometime on the street in the Syclone. I'll jump you the first 60' but after that you'll give me a beating that only a hybrid equipped TIII can dish out.

can someone say sticky?

NICE its about time that someone does this. My rockers are fine but I would buy 16 pins just to be ready.

We're still working on researching the right material to make them out of. Our design seems like it will work fine; but the material was definitely not suitable for a load carrying bearing surface.

Done

I was fortunate enough to be able to buy a set of the awesome T3 valve covers 86Shelby produced a few months back. His work is incredible!

Right now we're working on getting some made of 4340 steel, heat treated and polished. After I get the car back together and have run them for a few hundred miles I'll report with the results. We plan to take a few apart at that time to see if they wear into the rocker or any other abnormalities. If I feel I can trust them we'll investigate offering them.

I would guess 4340 would be a good alloy. Being one of the strongest of the Chro-Moly steels I dont think there will be a problem. However,if you were to make them interference fit and still use the snap-ring I think they will last longer. My experience with slip-fit steel to alum has not been so good but if oil will be always in between them it might hold up. Good luck and let us know how they hold up

A light interference fit in the rocker won't allow assembly of the needles & roller. Only a few thousandths seperate the diameters too.

I've got the pins back from being hardened today. I'll spend a little time trying to polish them up over the next few days. The engine is still a few weeks from running yet. I will let you all know how things go. And I thought the car would have been running in August...
