Pretty much as the title states, I have the motor almost ready to drop into the car again. I have the block back together and the head with the turbo and exhaust manifold attached. I would like to put the whole thing in together. What's the best place to lift the motor from?
Thanks,
Bryan

I lifted from the front motor mount, a bellhousing bolt and a bolt hole on the head. Sorry I don't have a better picture.

i dont have any pictures, but i did with mine all together using the ac bracket and a bolt and the other end of the chain around the turbo. it actually lifted it on the perfect again to get the tranny and motor back into my car which has the abs box on the driver side

When I yanked my motor/trans out of my Spirit I parted out a couple months back, I just wrapped one side of the chain around the pass side motor mount and unbolted it from the body, and the other side of the chain I bolted to the top two tranny bolts.

I wouldn't recommend mounting to the cylinder head's ground bolt; too much stress on that one little aluminum part, IMHO.

I like the idea of lifting from the bell housing, but the trans is still in the car, so I'm a little unsure of what to use on the driver's side. Considering the cost invovled in rebuilding the head I would rather not use it as a lift point either

I yanked a 2.2 TBI with the A413 tranny attached from an 89 Shadow. I used the threaded hole in the back (tranny side) of the head, where a ground strap is connected on some applications, with a 2" bolt and a healthy washer. I also used the front (front of the engine if it were in a rear whell drive vehicle) motor mount bracket. If you remove the through bolt for the motor mount (passenger side) and then jack up the engine on that side enough to drop the chhain into the bracket and replace the through bolt so the chain is locked in place. I also used a rachet strap wrapped around the intake and exhaust manifolds and then connected to the hook of the hoist to stabilize the engine from rotating. All went well for me.

Be safe and be blessed!

Whenever I have pulled a TIII motor(and trans together always) I would use that 10mm bolt hole on the driver's side front corner of the head and I made a "engine lift bracket" that I bolt to the three 8mm bolt holes that are in a triagular pattern and the passenger side rear of the head. Never had a problem doing it this way and I have done it like this for both installing and removing motors and have done at least 10 this way.
