The weld job filled the hole. Easily enough heat to move things around.
The cams did turn freely when assembled. Once oil was on the journals it turned much easier, though there was more resistance than I've experienced with SBCs and such with new cams & bearings. I know, vauge. But there was no point where either cam wouldn't turn or needed extra leverage.
I'm still going to have to get things looked at as I cannot seem to get the cam back into the exact same spot as it was and now it does not turn freely. That wear on those journals and the bores in the head is only going to get worse over time if left as they are. I'm not going to intentionally ruin a head that will run me a grand to reproduce. The noise is just the silver lining that lead me to probe deeper and find some serious issues that need addressing.
Looks like I might lap some valves and toss on a stock head so the car will move and be a backup car for the time being.
