A friend has a '77 308 GTB. He says you can also ruin an engine if one of the belts go. He says the cheap idiots on his Ferrari forum are always asking "Do we really need to change these belts so often? You're talking a $10,000+ bill, if a belt lets go. (if the engine isn't completely thrashed)
I'm glad to hear the R/T's don't have that problem. Just in case I buy one.

Yeah, He actually has two "77 GTB 308's. Not mint at all. Both need work. They were bargains when he got them. And the R/T's can blow the doors off his "recently" running one. They're "MUCH" higher maintenance than an R/T. Fun to drive, but I'd never get a car that you have to pull the engine out to replace 4? timing belts every 30,000 miles. That is if the car gets driven often. If it sits for long periods of time, you'd better change them more often.
