Okay, as an update, The transmission is sitting on my garage floor, and a new clutch is installed. Tranny goes back in tonight.

The pressure plate that was installed was riding even with the keys in the flywheel. the new PP does not do that, so this should fix it. Anyone have any sugguestions as to gear oil to pick up on my way home?

For the trans lube? Use 5-30W engine oil.

I sense sarcasm. I ask because with the Neons everyone made a fit about making sure you got the MOPAR MT Gear oil specifically. I was not sure if this transmission had an equally picky diet.

Seriously, 5-30W is the factory specified lube.

Yes, regular 5-30 motor oil, nothing special.

^^^ What Jackson said. ^^^

Yeah, the older 5-spd manuals were a little more lenient as far as lubricant requirements than the A-578 (NVG T-350) Neon trannys and newer. I have a FSM and it recommends 5w-30 motor oil.

It's all good, my friend! Soon as you get that thing back together, it will start right up.

don't think of it as motor oil when you put it in the trans think of it as trans oil There have been threads here not to use synthetic motor oil. They say its to slippery for the syncros and it could clash.

lol, okay, I'll take back half of the box of synthetic I purchased (or more likely just go buy some regular motor oil).

Looking last night, the guide I have didn't say how much fits in the trans... any guestimates in quartage I should aquire?

Bwa hahaha! Its running! new W255 pump, gastank, fuel level sender, clutch, and a bunch of oilz later!

The radio pop'd a fuse I think the moment I turned it on, gatta hunt that down, and the Headlights won't work, though all the other lights don't work... brights to, and yes good bulbs, and fuses are fine, though no current at the fuses. any iders on that? (i'm going to search the headlight issue now)

Also, the linkage is a bit odd... I can get it in first, third and 5th, when I put it in R the reverse light goes on, but 2, 4, and R no workie. The linkage was hooked up, and the retaining clips secured... the bushings looked fine... When I attempt to put it in R when it is running, you hear what sounds like the tip of the gear grinding lightly, like its not quite in gear... the clutch also has to be ALL THE WAY down, you let it up even a little itty bittie bit and its gripping already... I used 5w-30 regular oil.

So:
Headlights no workie
no 2, 4, R

oooh... took it for a test drive when I discovered how to get it ikn reverse...

first gear... then reverse. its still wack. if I try to go from 2, 4, r into 2, 4, r... it won't go... I have to get it into 2 3 5 fist for some reason... and even then you have t get he stick alllll the wa down to get the gear.

also, when boost starts to kick in harder, its choking or missing or something... above 4ish. and when revving with no load, the tach goes all crazytime when you get upto 5500ish.

Regarding the shifter problem, look at the cables where they attach to the bracket on the topside of the trans while you have somebody in the car shifting into 2, 4 and R. The cable itself might be binding or coming out of the cable sheath if it's not clipped in securely. If it feels really mushy when trying this that is probably your problem.
