Sorry, I didnt mean to sound like I was saying you were afraid of doing it. I just remember seeing you say somthing about it.
Glad to see you post

The aftermarket cal I used (FWD 3 bar/+40's) for the higher hp setup was around 12 degrees advance and this was tame enough to work great even on 93 octane with supplemental alky injection.

Also, keep in mind that I dynoed at 30-31 psi boost, but ran as much as 35 psi boost afterwards (but did not redyno). The car ran flawlessly at 35 psi boost. I could hardly believe it.
Thanks a bunch for the info! Mine was actually seeing more I think because I was fooling the map. But, it never knocked (spraying lots of meth) But I was also not in the 350whp range I dont think. I think I would see 25-28

You know....you might be right there. Mine might have been up to about 28 degrees as well. I think I still have some Excel datalogs somewhere that I can try and look this up in.

Regardless....it seems like very low timing and lots of boost is safer than the reverse (and makes more power to boot)!

Well......I guess I will have to admit to being a little bit chicken! HAHAHAHAA!

The track was about 75 miles away and although I was a dyno queen, I wasnt a trailer queen. So, I always had to drive there (and back preferably)

But, I really do wish I found time to make a few track passes with the car before shipping it off to PA.

If you could, I would LOVE to see em, and any other info you have around.
And the timing thing seems like great advice, I will take it. Thanks a ton for the input.

I have alot of respect for that. A true street car should show up at the track under its own power. I wish you would have been able to make some passes too. I cant get enough of the dyno vid, an actual run vid would be awesome.

Making that car was simple and relatively cheap. It would be very easy for someone else to improve on it without getting too fancy. I think the basic engine is pretty damn good.

I was also a cheapskate and didnt want to have to buy/store a trailer! LOL.

I will have to look and see if I have any other vids. I think I might have one more on the dyno of running the car right into the hard rev limit and getting a nice flame out the pipe!

My theory is...bang for the buck!

If one can get 500 whp out of a TIII pretty much just by bolting things onto it (turbo/intercooler), then thats a great path to take! My opinion of course.....

The other stuff raises the costs dramatically. Of course, that doesnt mean the other stuff isnt worth doing (for the extra power, especially at higher rpm) as well as for probabaly increased longevity. But, it comes at a cost...in REAL DOLLARS $$$$$! And, TDs are all about bang for the buck! If we wanted to spend $15-20k building a fast turbo car, there are many other choices. But, in the lower dollar realm, these cars cant be beat! That is part of the mystique (at least to me)....to be able to have something as good, or better, for $5-6k (including the car mind you.... )than another brand of car that took 2-3-4 times that to get the same result.
