I just got finished today making the first one and it came out very nice. I have pictures of the tensioner and would love to post them but my attachment manager is full. Does anyone know how to delete old pictures out of the attachment manager? Or, would someone be willing to post the pictures for me? OR, if you have a MySpace account or know someone who does, the photos can be viewed at the following website: MySpace

Thanks, Adam

This is NOT a rebuilt stock tensioner. I personally designed, and machined all the parts to this tensioner, so there are no parts used from the stock tensioner. (This is a brand new tensioner) The tensioner on the right is stock and the tensioner on the left is the one I made. I got two cartridge ball bearings. Then machined the inner shaft and the outer sleeve, Then pressed it all together. So when your bearings go bad or get rough all you do is press out the old ones and press in new ones. I only have a picture of the stock one so you can compare mine to the stock one.
Thanks Adam

What alloy did you use on the inner and outer pieces? Does the bearing you used have a plastic bearing cage to get them in and out? What are the seals made out of? Sorry for all the ?s but it looks like a cool design and I do alot of work with bearings

For reasonable price I bet that you would sell a lot. I'd buy one for start.

Inner and outer parts where machined out of A513 cold rolled steel.
To change bearings in and out you simply take the two metal retaining rings(snap rings) off, then you can press the shaft out, then press the bearings out of the sleeve. There are rubber seals on both sides of the bearings, and they have a max rpm of 11000.

This is only the first one I made. If anyone has any suggestions for the next one let me know. Before I sell any, I would like to install this one on my car and see how it works.

How do you adjust tension on it? The pics are kinda dark on my monitor. The OEM tensioner has a hex that I use an allen socket on to apply tension. Does yours use that or do you need a small spanner wrench for the two smaller holes like a DSM?

That's what I was wondering too. The stocker in the picture doesnt have the hex hole in it. Maybe there was a design change at some point? I'm very interested in one of these. Even more interested if there's a hex for the adjustment hole. But, beggars can't be choosers.

Awesome job though!

My tensioner has a 1/4" hex. The stock one uses a 8mm hex. So yes you can still use an allen wrench to adjust the tension.
