I got this white r/t from "omni spirit" last year around july?
It had ~120,000 miles on it when the odometer gear died (from what i remember omni telling me). He had rebuilt it 10,000 miles prior to me getting it due to a bad rod bearing. I didnt do a whole lot after I got it besides replacing the little odometer gear and ordering some stuff from cindy (stage 3, +40s, rrfpr etc). I drove it for several months before it developed another knock and at the point it was close to winter so I garaged it. Omni had rebuilt it with venolias (.020 over i think) and added a turbonetics 50 trim (i think its the 46lb/hr one) and added a large intercooler.

Now the weather has gotten better and it's time to fix it up. I started about 3 weeks ago with removing the engine after finding the #4 rod bearing was pretty much gone. Since then the engine was taken to the machine shop and I got a newer set of T2 rods (that havent been resized or otherwise messed with). The machine shop found the current set of rods to have 2 bad ones and 3 had loose wrist pins. He's moving the pistons over to the good set. It also needed line bored and the deck surface was out .003. The head was good, no changes will be made to it other than cleaning up the surface. I'm still awaiting a fresher crank. I hope to pick it up this weekend and get it to the machine shop to finish the work. When that's all done I'll get it back and together.

In the meantime I've been cleaning/painting parts to get things looking a little better. I was trying to clean the trans without disassembling it but it's a good thing I did take it apart, I found the 3/4 shift fork pads to be bad and lucky for me (pure, pure luck) I had a spare set from when I replaced the pads on my a523 and accidentally ordered 2 sets.

Here are some pics of the progress.

back together!

more updates. got everything back from the machine shop yesterday.
block was hot tanked. cylinders were re-honed. The venolias were all moved from the old rods to a virgin set of rods (t2). bushings were opened up to fit the venolias. block needed line-bored, machinist said the whole block had some twist to it. he also cut the deck .008 due to warpage. head was pressure checked, no problems. i don't think he did anything to the head other than some quick cleanup. He painted the block too which saved me the trouble.

All i'm waiting on now is a crank and bearings (which of course i need a crank to measure first). Anyone have an uncut forged crank?

Here are the pics.
WHAT HEADGASKET IS THIS? Is it reusable? just cleanup and copper spray?

What is that expoxy covering? should a core plug have been there?

man, i really hate that it gave up on you. i really do miss that car. it was the cleanest R/T.
i wish i could have done more with it. but it was a bad time in my life for stuff like that.(had a business that gone bad, and lost a lot of money). but now that i'm more then back on my feet i wish i had it back. even though i got a nice GLH with a turbo 2.4. it's still not the same. i remember when i got that car in 2004. went to all end of the earth to get it, and the damn thing blew up on me on the way home from getting it. i think i was the second owner. i didn't get it going till late 06 early 07. i only drove it for 6 months or so. then my wife made me sell it. to get caught up with some bills. she always wins, damn. i love any ways

i can tell you one thing i'm never going to that mech. shop ever again. i paid him to look at every thing possible and let me know. it also took him 2 months to do it. i don't think that block could have got that way between the time me and you had it. i did do some racing with it. but i don't think that could have done it.
oh, btw have you ever taken it to the track at all?

i didnt take it to the track, no. just enjoyed it on the street (that's NOT code for street racing). Since I got my first 2.5 NA spirit around '97 i've wanted an R/T so i was just happy to have one in such good condition. At that time i knew nothing about the inner workings of a car so after reading all the problems they had i figured it'd be best that i didnt own one. now i can rebuild engines and do just about anything so its not a problem.

still need a crankshaft though. anyone have one? it's the only thing keeping this car from going back together. please pm me if you do!
