Thanks everyone for the input. I have decided to go with the OBX. I have upgraded all the washers and bolts. Now I just need to find me a 523. Hopefully with the 3.85fd.
Thanks again everyone!

You might check with Cliff Ramsdell. He built mine for me with the OBX and 3.85 ring gear and main shaft.

Ok guys. OBX will be on its way shortly. What exactly do I need as far as doner trans?

a523 from what years and cars? And I just need the ring gear and main shaft.

And, would the 3.50 final drive be more benificial to my car, or the lower 3.85 to help get the pig moving?

You need the ring gerar and main shaft. Id stick with the 3.85s. The R/T seems to like lower gears better if drag racing is your primary concern. I went from a 23 inch tire to a 24.5 and it didnt E.T as well.

Thanks wallace. Thats kinda what I was thinking. Do you happen to know what cars the a523 with the 3.85 final drive came out of? I cant seem to find anything on it.

They were only available in 1990 & 1991 in either 3.50 or 3.85 and 1992+ went to 3.77 only... Same thing with the 543. As to which specific cars or engine, I'm not sure.

^^+1..I've seen 3.85 in A523's later than '91. 5-speed vans had them(kinda rare though). I beleive P-bodies are where I've seen most of them...

Keep the input coming as to what vehicles these have been seen in.

Cory, for your build I think OBX is the way to go, especially since you are going to b racing it so much. The transmission shop across the street from my shop installed the quaife in my 568, so I am sure they could handle the OBX. As for finding a 523, I see them pretty often. I have seen them in a lot of shadows and neons in the yards around here. An easy way to spot them is look for any five speed cars with a shift knob that looks just like your R/T knob. Chrysler did a good job of using the same knob on the same trans in different cars.

If you need a hand let me know, I pretty much end up at the j/y once a week anyways.

Neons used an A578...I don't think the internals are swappable from those to our trannies...not 100% on that, but I've never heard of it being done.
