I have seen them in a lot of shadows and neons in the yards around here. An easy way to spot them is look for any five speed cars with a shift knob that looks just like your R/T knob. Chrysler did a good job of using the same knob on the same trans in different cars.

If you need a hand let me know, I pretty much end up at the j/y once a week anyways.
Do you remember about how much it was to have them do that. The quaiffe you dont have to remove the main shaft like I do for the obx.

I have no idea since I wasn't the one who had it installed. I can ask them for ya but chances are yours will be a bit more expensive.

You still have to pull the trans apart for the main shaft swap, Right. So while you are in there I'm sure there is parts that need changing ...A real Qualfe will go right in & you won't have to hunt down & strip a trans. So I think that in the end it works out the same?

+1

I was about to mention this......quaife is almost a basic drop in, but in all honesty if you want to do it right, you need to pull the guts out of the trans to check for bearing preload on the A568, since the bearing is attached to the ring gear.

my quaife was just installed the other day....there was no play in the diff, didnt bother to gut the trans, if for some reason there is too much preload ill just end up burning out my bearings quicker, but at the cost of this unit, im sure its a very nice quality piece, and within spec to a stock diff.

anywho, on a side note.....if your looking for a gear, I have one that wil put your mediocre!!! 3.77fd from a 93 V6 trans (large spline). hit me up with an offer if you like, was holding onto it in case I didnt like the 3.85 gear, id just have to swap that quaife out for a OBX if I ever went that route....

the 3.77 would give you a little more gear, but nothing too crazy like going to 3.50

I thought all the large pilot shaft 523s used the 3.77 gears? I have a 91 568 and a 91 523 with 3.77s that I am hybriding with an OBX. They need better screws and washers, no big deal. Then once the bearings and so on are install make sure the shafts go in. At this point if they are tight I am going to use a brake hone on the OBX. I think the clearance of the asian posi is not tight enough. So some come a little fat for the axles. But all this is tiny and you can have 3 OBX units from the same TD vendor for about what a good one cost. It is cheaper to buy the OBX on like Ebay. I paid a little more and got the OBX and the new washers and so on from FWDperformance instead.

oh boy Quaifee, you know that you have to do a little grinding and so forth on the inside of the case and you have to cut an axle right

Yeah, but you have to do the grinding with the obx as well. Plus the spline on the obx always need to be cleaned up to make the axle fit. Not to mention, you have to have a a523 trans for a doner. This will save me lots of time. And, its not made in freakin china. x2

It will. I dont know anyone thats had problems with the quaife. Or the obx really. But the quaife takes lots less work.

Plus the quaife has a lifetime warranty including racing use, so if you have issues, you can get it taken care of. If you break the OBX, you just throw it away and start all over.
later,
Cindy
