I'm also curious as to what needs to be done to get a modest boost in performance.
The stock TIIIs were rated at 224hp, how much of that do you think was available as whp?
And if someone wanted to get between 250-300whp, what would be the main mods to get there?

I put down 242 to the wheels w/stock turbo and a 3inch cut-out exhaust at stock boost levels(11PSI). I do have a upgraded IC. The first mods should be:exhaust,IC. turn the boost to 14 and your probably putting down 275+WHP.

What im doing with mine:
1- Fix everything that may need attention, belts, vacuum line, oil lines, cooling system, good oil and filters. Fuel pump and filter replaced...
2- "safe" mods, air filter, a/f gauge, magnecor wire, +20 injector with adjustable regulator, 3inch exhaust no cat ,add a second electric fan in the front.
3-manual boost controler, set to 14-15 psi max
4- adjustable cam sprockets.
i will limit to this. Dont want to mess up such a nice and rare car.
I have a 72 charger 440 to let myself loose
I sugest you visit www.DempseyBowling.com

Like what was said above... The rt motors come alive with just opening up the exhaust, putting a grainger valve on, a better cooler. But, the first order of business is to make sure everything in the car is running like it should. Vac lines in good condition ect.

What is a grainger valve?
And is it better to install a vacuum block?
The car has a 2.5" exhaust and an upgraded computer, though he's not sure what stage it is. He thinks it's set to a max of 17psi. Still has stock IC and injectors...

A grainger valve is a manual boost controller. Very cheap, and easy to make.
DDG- Homemade boost control
A vacuume block will really simplify your vac line system. If your going to replace alot of the vac system. I would recomend getting one just becuase it makes it cleaner and eaiser.
I hope if it has a cal, it atleast has +20% injectors. I will see if I can find the part number on those so you can check and see. Do you have an air fuel ratio meter?

Injectors are stock according to Craig. He was going to try and find whatever paperwork/receipts he had on the car. I read somewhere that stock injectors work just fine and going with bigger ones will only hurt mileage. I think it was one of the sites that Kriss posted above.
Again, I'm not looking to get too wild. If a few simple mods will get me in my range of 250-300whp I'll be happy with that. In the future if I have time to spend at the track I'll go a bit wilder but for now mild will do...

BTW, to the OP, sorry I jacked your thread. I just didn't see anyone answering your original question and was trying to stir the topic back up. Hopefully some of this will be of use to you as well...

1st, all FWD performance cals (even stage 1) call for +20 injectors. Any cal that goes over 15psi of boost requires a 3 bar map sensor(and would NEED upgraded injectors). Stock injectors will be good to 15psi, safely. Figure out what you have, as far as injectors and computers first. Get the part numbers from the injectors and post them here or look them up on thedodgegarage.com. Take your computer out, open the case(5 screws)and see if it socketed(you can see the cpu chip).
Like I said earlier, you can get 250whp with stock computer(probably the best way too)bigger exhaust and intercooler and 14lbs of boost. No brainer........everything else should be in good working order.

Easy and cheap recipe for at least 250whp right there. These cars are soo corked up from the factory. And can handle anything that stock turbo can dish out, and lots more.
please keep us updated.
