Well all, I just bought a 92 Iroc RT. It came with 2 engines. The one in it is not stock, the one out is supposed to be. What I'm wondering is how to best proceed. I want to have a daily driver that will be reliable with as much HP as possible. I have a descent size budget ($3000 - $5000) to spend, but I need to get the outside painted too. So, any advice would be apreciated. How much HP can/should I get and how do I get there. Also, should I work with the stock engine, or leave it stock and rebuild it back to stock (since it is in a few pieces).
Let me know!

Whats been modified on the other engine? What shape are the two in.?
IC, Exhaust, Turbo, LSD aare all good upgrades, but depending on where you want to go, rods etc may be a wise choice...

daytonaman221 , im in a similar situation. I just bougth an Iroc R/T as a daily driver.
BUT what im discovering is that even in stock form this car isnt the most reliable to say the least. So i dont even imagine using a modified one as a ''reliable'' daily driver.
You will also see that parts and help are hard to find.
Not much in the aftermarket too.

kriss, although some limited aspects of the TIII can be tempermential the platform as a whloe is very sound. From high nickle content blocks, forged crank, rods and pistons, 21-4N stainless valves a brutally stout transmission all in a package that is reasonably comfortable.
Yes aftermarket is lacking but there are only 2000 or so TIIIs made so one would expect limited involvement aftermarket. I think the vendors have stepped up to provide just about everything one will need to have some very reasonable fun. Just about anything you can ask has or can be answered on the forum. Hang in there bro.

I agree 100% with Wallace. These TII's can put out some awesome power and still be reliable. But, Like ANY car, if you beat on it and don't maintain it, things will break.
Just about any parts you need can be found by posting on this board or visiting these vendors:

i drive mine as often as i can, but i have a spare car(wifes honda) just in case she breaks down..they just need some one who is seriously in love with turbo dodges to own one, as is willing to change timing belts at any time..as for your spare engine you should just give it to me so it does not take up to much space in your garage..i have lots of room for it!

With things like proper belt tension, Ti retaners, oil cooler, these cars can be made to be quite reliable. I couldnt agree more with what has been said above.

The engine in the car has the following done (as far as I know):
Stage 4 cal + 40's
3" straight exhaust
Solid front motor mount
4 puck ceramic clutch
ARP head studs
balance shafts removed...
That is all i know about.

if its too much to maintain, you can give me any R/T and il take it off your hands so it cant give you any reliability issues ever again

sounds like a good start and it can be dependable. I have been daily driving mine for about 16 months and 12k miles with no issues. All mine has is 3 inch exhaust and stage 1. I beat on it every chance I get.

I drove my first R/T as a daily driver for a little while, and I ran into some problems doing so. In the end, though, it was really my fault more than the car...
Lesson 1: Do not attempt to guess at the timing belt tension.
I replaced mine 5 times in 10k miles. I paid to have it installed at the dealership once, but I never had the tension checked afterward. Needless to say, it lasted longer that time, but I still managed to shred it.
Other than that issue, I never had the core plugs replaced, so I am certain the coolant leak was from a small crack, and I had to replace the cam position sensor once.
I did drive the hell out of the car, and unlike the one I just brought home, my first one would break traction at about 4500 RPMs in 1st and keep spinning after I shifted to 2nd if I kept my foot in it. I didn't spend a lot of time doing things like this, but it could be done at will, and that probably wasn't exactly helpful for keeping timing belts on it either.
Bottom line is: Spend some time taking care of the little things, and plan to spend some money on maintenance here and there, and you may never have to worry about this sort of problem... It is sweet as hell to drive a car that pulls a 13.902 @ 101 mph at the track (stock w/ drag radials) and gets ~34 mpg on the drive home.

yep, I've had my r/t over a year and only problem I've had is I popped a headgasket cause I used a factory one and was overboosting with coolant problems. So it was my fault. don't do what someone did with the car i have, the head had a crack so they kept filling it with stop leak until the whole engine was clogged. it was a pain to get everything eventually flushed out. its a fun engine to have. smooth and it goes good with awesome mileage.
