when using the otc 4000e in my spirit, i've noticed that i get knock voltage but it never goes to the active status. what kind of voltage numbers trigger the knock retard? i have a fwd stage 4 cal in the car if that makes any difference, the highest voltage i've seen is around 1.26v but like i said it doesn't go active. is this ok or is there a problem.

knock is based on a certain voltage at certain rpms. So at 2k it might require 1.5v (example #'s) to say you're knocking were at 5k it might take 4v to have knock go active. The curve is not linear either. So yes as long as your OTC is saying No knock you're ok.

i see. thanks. i actually was wrong about the numbers now that i reviewed the data recorded from my first pass at the drag strip friday night. this is at 25psi with 5gallons of 110 mixed with about 7-8 gallons of 93 along with a 3gph jet on the 50-50 alky mix.
rpm-6874
knkv-3.08v
knka-no
advance-15degrees
so as long as knock isn't active then i'm ok, then that works for me.

you need a bigger nozzle on that thing, the 3 is too tiny, i just put in the M12 today, car is loving all the alki and i run 75-25 meth to water mix. the extra meth with keep the knock to virtually nothing.

Ditto. If you DIDN'T see a voltage change that would indicate a problem with you sensor/wiring/computer.

i plan on going with the bigger nozzle once i get the revised stage 4 chip from cindy, then it will go back onto the dyno to get tuned in. do you have the devils own progressive kit on yours? i'll swap out to the 7gph jet tomorrow being that is the biggest one that i have at the moment.

i had a 7 or a 10 in on the stage 3 cal and it was great, did you replace your plugs and gap themn to .028 when you installed the kit? yes devilsown progressive. i have a cold shrouded tip NGK plug in mine, much better even tho it did perform well on 9yc champions

If you would like, I can send you a copy of a datalog off an otc scanner to show you how much the voltage jumps around, but the car was not knocking. I was worried about this myself after watching the otc during a few pulls.
Let me know if you would like that.

You should be getting more than 15deg timing though..... I agree with upping the alky jet. I have am7 on mine, and was running the stock turbo to 18. Once the holset goes on, I am concidering 2 jets, or getting a huge one. Maybe even direct port since devilsown has a nice cheap kit to do it with.

i have ngk gr5 2851 plugs in right now, if i remember correctly they are gapped to .025".

bansheenut420-i'll take whatever data you are willing to share. you can send it to gimpyleg13@aol.com. as for the timing, it varies from around 15-19 degrees advanced pending on the conditions. i was never sure what the stage 4 was supposed to run timing wise. if that is low though, that could explain the lack of power the car is making. been trying to smooth out all the problems i could find with the car. i'm still confused with the whole turbo smoking thing. i changed the oil and put in a can of restore, drove it to ocean city, md(435mile round trip)and now it no longer smokes. looking at my timeslips, mph wise it is still showing that it is down on power(et doesn't count, as its on street tires with a large traction issue)
60'-2.827
330'-6.963
1/8-9.959
1/8mph-84.40
1000-12.472
1/4-14.580
1/4mph-107.49
that trap speed is showing roughly 320whp. at 25psi should be more. so maybe the timing is what's causing it. i've rechecked the timing belt twice now and all looks good in that dept.
