When I took my T3 motor apart I matched the rod caps with the rods. Except I don't remember if I turned them the right way. Do the notches on these parts where the bearing sit supposed to be on opposite sides facing the same rod bolt?

Thanks,
Joe

the notches go on the same side as one another. if you put a cap on backwards with the bearing installed it will not turn on the crank journal.

Another question

Is it ok to use another T2 rod from another motor and mix it in with the 3 good T3 rods? One of my T3 Rods is no good and I have four good T2 rods but I knicked one of the rod bushings when I took the piston off the T2 rod.

The T2 part number is exactly the same of the T3 rods.

TIII rods are TII rods with better rod bolts. If you use the TII rod you will have a weaker link in the chain(not too much weaker). What are your plans for the motor? IIWY, i would get arp rod bolts while I had them out and get a machine shop to resize them. my 2 cents

I bought a set of ARP Rod studs for the new ones being put in. I'm wanting between 300-320 crank hp. I didn't know if there would be a balance issue since it isn't a matching set.

I guess if it comes down to it I could always use the studs out of the bad T3 rod.

When you use new rod bolts you HAVE TO get them(the rods)re-sized by a machine shop. They should balance them while there are doing that if they are a good shop. DO NOT change the rod bolts and just put them to use, you will likely damage the crank/bearing. JUST FYI. Good luck!

I already bought bearings for rod and rod caps. When the rod get resize will this effect the diameter of them where I would need thicker bearings. Please explain. I'm pretty new at this.

Resizing the rods makes them round and back to stock size.Your bearings will be fine.

Excatly! When you change rod bolts it can affect the "trueness" of the rod. resizing them puts them back to stock size and makes them "true"/perfect circle. That way, you have no problems when you put your new motor together. This should be a requirement, don't skip it. Also, it's inexpensive. A good machine shop will also balance the rods and pistons when they do this so make sure you take them your pistons also. If, you don't.......no biggie on the balancing for a 350hp motor

Your guys rock!

This week I'll be bringing the rods to be resized and the new arp studs to be put in. Building this motor should be a good learning experience.
