Putting the head on my TIII and noticed that the shop I had it to removed the temperature sending units from the front of the head and from the side under the therostat housing. The shop says they can't find them (plus their 10 hours away) so I am wondering if any 2.2 turbo units will work or if I have to order 93 TIII units from Chrysler? Any help would be great. BTW this is a very helpful site...

I just checked Autozone online and they are only showing the sending unit for the gauge not the Coolant Temperature Sensor for the controller so I would say get Mopar, that way you know they are correct and calibrated for your car.

Thanks but I guess what I'm wondering is if I can use the ones from my other 2.2's that I have laying around...88 shelby Z or what ever or are these specific to the TIII heads. Interchangeable?

That I do not know. If you can get the Mopar part #'s I can tell you what years they fit.

There is not a temp sensor on the front of the head. That is the knock sensor. The knock sensor is the same from all 2.2's. The sensor under the thermo housing is for the temp gauge (I believe) and is not used on any other 2.2. I guess its possible that it could be used on the 3.0's or the 3.3's, but I dont have any experience on those motors. Your best bet is the dealer. I cant imagine that little thing being more than $20.

your totally right on that. It is a knock sensor. But I didn't know that 2.2's had a "knock" sensor. I hope you are right that I can use any 2.2 sensor, I just priced one and they are $98.00. So the only thing that resembles a knock sensor is around the 1 and 2 spark plug area on the front of the TII head. I always thought this was a temp sending unit. Is this the knock sensor your talking about?

The temp gauge sensor that is on the BACK of the head right underneath the water box is the same for any 2.2 or 2.5 motor. I would get a good all brass one at the local auto-parts store. I would guess they will have them in stock. The coolant temp sensor(on the water box) is the same for any 2.2 or 2.5 as well and that same store should have that as well. Good luck

The sensor on the front of the T2 head between the 1 and 2 plugs is the same sensor as the T3 sensor that screws into the side of the T3 head under the waterbox. The sensor on the side of the waterbox of the T2 head is the same sensor that goes into the waterbox of the T3 head. The knock sensor on the T2 cars bolts into the intake manifold right next to the fuel rail. The Knock sensor for the T3 bolts to the front of the head under the intake manifold. I hope that clears things up. In the first picture of the 8v head you can see both coolant temp sensors. Second picture you can see the knock sensor in the T3 head. Third picture you can see the knock sensor in the T2 two piece intake manifold. Hope that helps.

everything has become crystal clear. Thanks for your patience, your a wealth of knowledge for sure. Now I can finally get back to putting this thing back together. BTW lottashelby's, this car came from Sturtevant area. Two years ago my wife and I flew to Milwaukee and drove it back to the east coast. It is in perfect shape and only had 67000 (now 72000) on it when we got it from the original owner. I know this sounds funny but an older lady (60ish) owned the car since new and she stored it every winter. It was quite a find but I gotta say if I'd known it had a cracked head I would have walked home and left it there seeing as nobody around here does head welding. The closest place is Montreal Canada and I think it was their first tim working on a TIII head. They warranteed it for a year so I'm hoping it will be ok. Thanks again for all the help.
