There is an alignment shop directly across the street from our shop that I use. Its funny, because only the owner of the shop knows I am right across the street. When they did the alignment on my R/T fresh after the build I watched one of their techs take off a little fast for my liking. When he pulled back in the shop I met him there and I asked how it was running in a less than freindly tone. Needless to say he was quite surprised to see me there. And of coarse he tried to play it off like he didn't do anything at all. It wasn't a big deal, but you exect the owner to give them a heads up. From inside my shop I can hear them start my R/T inside their shop!

One person has actually driven my car besides me. I let the alignment shop guy (at a good shop owned by his older father and not just kids at a tire place) drive my car after we called some people and couldnt come up with an answer to the cars inability to drive straight on most roads.
He ran through 3rd gear (according to him) and that was actually helpful because everything he thought previously went out the window. I was nervous about the potencial of him driving my car but after talking with him and him calling people didnt get a good answer (and everyone in the shop had their own opinions) it seemed a test drive was in order.
I had already warned him the day before that I would have to stay there as long as the car was there because of its nature.
If I had to take the car to a normal shop for something stupid, I would remove the wastegate spring from my external wastegate so the tech can screw around with my super low compression car on no boost
142 mph would have got my blood boiling though. Thats really fast and quite a dangerous thing to do in a car that isnt even yours. High boost was a bad call too.

i used to work in a shop and i was detailing this rich guys porsche 911 turbo and he came out there just as i was towel drying it and said " i like it air dried, take it around the block." and winked at me. i was like holy shit!! so i drove the piss out of it and let me tell you that car was nothing to **** around with. where i worked the block was one mile east one mile south one mile west and one mile north back to the shop. i got that car to 140 and almost shit my pants. went back in the shop kinda shaking and he asked "pulls pretty hard eh?" i said "its pretty quick kinda hard to keep my foot out of it" he told me he would have done the same thing and then proceeded to tip me 20 bucks.

i had an alignment done once when i first put the motor in. didnt even break in yet, the guy took it for a ride and ripped on it. i was pissed! so now when i bring it in to shops, i walk in the place carrying my grant steering wheel and tell them to let me know when they want me to pull it in the shop.

I thought all TD guys worked on their own cars. Well, I guess it's hard to do your own alignment...

Damn mechanics... lol. I'm one myself and I can honestly say that I've never "gotten on it" in a customers car. I just think that I woldn't want my car beaten up by someone thats supposed to be fixing my car. I baby all my cars. I did work at a Chev dealership once and a good buddy of mine bought a new ZO6 in '01 from there. It was in getting some routine maintenance done and we took it to the wash bay to get it detailed for him. I was walking out to the back lot to pick up my next job and the stupid wash boys were doing burnouts and doughnuts in the lot across the street in it!!! So call me a tattle tale but of course I let the shop foreman know. And they got fired. I mean come on! Its a good friends car and you see some 18 year old punks beating the living hell out of it! It's his dream car and babies it. My friend was very grateful as well. What would you do? The only cars I've ever gotten on was my dads 98' Vette. His daily driver. He let me drive it every weekend and to all highschool dances. It rocked! And when I was working at the same dealer ship a particular used car came in from someone trading it in. It was a 91 300ZX twin turbo. So technically nobody "owned" it. Or I wouldn't have done this. I hopped in the driver seat and another mechanic popped in the other seat. We launched it around a very small street block that the dealership sat on. We topped out around 110 in a very small area. It was sweet. then we pulled up to the bay and what do you know, but a city police officer pulled up behind us. . So he says " I didn't clock you but you were going pretty fast around that corner." So I chime in "we were test driving it for a break pulsation. " He took my word for it. All was good. Lucked out on that one.
