To be honest I have been losing interest in my R/Ts lately as they just seem to sit in the garage and I never drive them. I took out my red R/T this past weekend and dialed in the boost to right under cut out, I also hooked up the buttsniffer (tailpipe wideband) to make sure all was well. So I made a few rips in it and it felt good, then I just pulled it into the garage where it would sit again.

Well I ended up having a buddy come over last night who was bringing over some motorcycle parts for my new bike. We were talking about the R/Ts and I was showing him my white R/T with the Holset on it and we were just bullshitting around in the garage. Then I asked if he wanted to go a ride in my red R/T and he didn't hesitate so we fired it up and I see a big smile on his face. The car is loud and just sounds mean. I pulled out onto my driveway and headed towards the nearest highway. He got such a kick out of how fast the car was and the whole sleeper thing. He was laughing the entire time while I was fighting for traction and battling torque steer. I think he was a little confused on how much power it actually makes since he asked if it ran 11s or 12s, I just kind of laughed and said probably not.

On our last pull at an on ramp I hit boost cut and the car backfired and blew my buttsniffer out of the tailpipe, so that was dragged at 90 mph or so. Oh well it looks to be fine.

I guess last night reminded me of how much fun these cars can be. It was funny seeing someone get such a big kick out of the car, most people don't think anything of it but that can be a good thing sometimes.

I've owned my '93 IROC for about 3 weeks now. The one thing i can say is that everytime I drive it, it puts a smile on my face. The TIII is a sweet revving engine. Power galore, even in stock trim. I haven't had a chance to really run it since i got home but even stoplight-to-stoplight I enjoy it.

I'm excited to think of what lies ahead as I plan my intended mods...

i first got my R/T over 3 years ago it was great when i would punch it and shift and hit boost and the tires would roast. now with mods, it takes a little longer to burn the tires but it pulls 100x harder than then. still the best turbo dodge to drive in my opinion.

Yeah my hybrid helps with wheel spin a little, I really need to install the computer, injectors and 3 bar map. I don't think 14-15 psi is the hot spot for this turbo.

It doesn't surge, I was just saying that the turbo can move a lot more air than what I have it currently set at.

Well, I got my R/T about a year ago and loved it for about 6 months until the turbo went up. I lost interest in it and it sat in the garage for the winter as I drove my TI shadow.. I've recently taken it out and started tinkering with it as you can see from my thread. All the interest is back and in full swing! Driving or riding in my spirit is all it takes to make someone want/respect one as several of my friends can tell you. Seeing the looks on the faces of m3,wrx,evo,srt4,mustang,corvette,viper(jk) etc owners faces as I blow by them is priceless! And all this power on a block with 160k+ miles is insane. I know the motor will "let go" eventually and I am actually looking forward to having a motor that I built and know can take the abuse I want to throw at it. I've got a spare haltec e6k standalone from my rotary that is wanting to see this r/t

I can understand your buddy thinking your car is a 11 or 12 second car. From what I remember my Dodge Spirit RT puts you back in the seat almost like my 2003 Mustang Cobra. This is because the suspension on my Spirit makes the acceleration so much more entertaining since it really can keep up with the power it makes and the rear end squats like crazy. My Mustang on the other hand feels pretty planted and the front end doesn't raise up that much due to the 600lb/in spring rate. I'm not sure what the stock spirit Rt are.

They are weak stock springs for sure, especially 15yr+ old ones

Awesome thread!

So... I still have all 5 of my R/Ts. Paint peel on the two white ones is just awful. Starting next spring we'll be restoring one each year with our tax refunds-- exteriors at least. Just added a second R/T to our insurance today so my wife and I can each drive one :-).

With gas being so expensive I hardly ever let loose but when I do the looks of bewilderment and confusion on other drivers faces is priceless.

Its good to see so many familiar names on the board. I'll definitely be around more often!

Peace,

Ryan, You're going to have to give me a ride in you're red R/T soon. I need something to make me smile. The Shelby hasn't helped lately.

hehe I always have a similar opportunity with my two Spirit R/Ts whenever friends stop by my place. My white one is still being rebuilt/restored while my near-mint Indy Red Product Evaluation Vehicle gets all the attention whenever someone wants a ride. Just awesome cars.
