I finally installed a boost gauge and my suspicions were confirmed. For a long time, my R/T has considerably less power when warm. The difference is a lot. I get a solid 15psi of boost when the engine is warming up, but 10psi dropping to 7psi when fully warmed up. When warm it's not much faster than a TI car.

All vacuum lines are routed properly and are set up stock. I have the updated vacuum connectors at the wastegate and baro solenoids. The connections are tight, so no leaking there.

I don't think I'm running lean because there is no pinging, but I have yet to verify the mixture under load. The SBEC and +20 injectors I have are supposed to run rich on my stock fuel pressure regulator.

I don't think the exhaust is the issue because I had the same problem with the old exhaust.

I thought I'd throw this out to you all before I go any further. Anyone have a similar problem?

"Anyone have a similar problem?"

I just bought a '92 iroc r/t and I've noticed that it likes the mornings and cool days better than the afternoon sun on a hot day too.

The guy I bought it from said the same thing and we basically came to the conclusion that it's getting heat soaked with that small intercooler. We could be wrong, but that thing does get pretty warm if you get heavy with your foot.

When cash allows I want to get a much bigger intercooler and see how that helps.

Ambient temp today was 71 so I can't imagine it heat soaking that bad, but who knows with that intercooler- point taken MNmopar. Flushed entire cooling system no more than 2 months ago. Air filter is good to go clean.

I'm going to take some temp readings on the intercooler with the engine hot and cold to see if that leads to something.

I have heard heatsoaking in the t3's is pretty normal
I know my t1 intercooled baron does the same thing.

thats strange, could you be losing boost someplace else? i doubt the temperature unless drasticly hot or cold could affect the boost level that much. yes cold it will want more, hot it may not want that much but not that significant an amount. i was losing some i guess my stock snail had a crack in it and couldnt hold the boost all the time even with the gate shut so it couldnt open
xtrempickup is online now

Maybe picking up knock when warmer or somthing? Do you have a scanner? Is your boost computer controlled or do you have a grainger in there? If you have a grainger, its probably somthing to do with the turbo. The stock turbos on these cars do get cracks behind the wastegate pucks like xtrempickup said. Some people say it wont matter because the wastegate will just stay closed longer to compensate, but my stocker never ran the same after it was cracked. But, it was def faster than a t1 car.

Definite possibility on the knock. In order to have my scanner do more than read codes I have to upgrade it which means $$$. I'll make some long leads with my DVOM and see what kind of voltage the knock sensor is throwing out. The boost control setup is via computer and completely stock. I have an ND SBEC which is why it will boost to 15psi.

I'm really beginning to think the wastegate is opening too soon.
