Turbo question

This may be a beginer question, but anyways...

Whats the sign that can tell that a turbo is worn out (without disasembling everything) ?

Noises, smoke, or anything??

I think mine is allright but its a 185 000km car and i have no idea if it has everbeen replaced or rebuilt.

side to side and in and out shaft play, smoking, sometimes noise

What was said above. And the noise I have heard them make when they are dying is similar to a vacuum cleaner when you put your hand over it.

About the shaft play, obviously i need to get the turbo out to chek that right?

Take the intake stuff off the turbo,and feel if the shaft moves inside. If it moves alot, chances are thats thats the problem.
