HI GUYS , wrote a book earlier and closed window darn it. i`ve got this 1993 iroc rt 39k thats real sweet BUT....it has a slight problem the exhaust camshaft broke on me while idleing as i was taking pics of it to possibly sell..... that will teach me..... this car was woman driven and her hubby was part owner in a dodge dealership sooo.the deal is this head has a bearing on the front first journal i dont know if it was a factory fix or not, as all ive heard is that they had no journal bearings at all which they all should have had bearings then they would be easier to repair, as well as caps on the head to allow easy removal of the cam, the beauty of this motor is the head and its down fall as i see it. they still race the old 2.2 but not this motor much , it has a good following and some die hard lovers but???and it is so costly,as i said this may be a factory fix deal remember the 440`s with the maltese x`s for crank os bearings ect. this one maybe? same type deal, the previous owners had the proper resourses ect to fix it properly and i assume was under warranty so if the bearing was not a factory deal why is it there? they may have ate the head alittle , found a bearing bored the j1 put it in then turned the j1 on the cam then put it all back together??? far fetched? number 1 journal is 1.872 bearing id is 1.878 or so worn some due to radial loading and...... the rest are all 1.886 or so and the lobes all look perfect.i`ll have to do more research, get the bearing out look on the back ect. i pd 12k for this car in 96 had 31k on it i got to put a whole7k or so on it, was kinda keeping it for a collector car type deal if it realized but??got lots of ways to go with this dont know which is best , have a 92 i believe spirit rt,that has 113k on it and ran good when parked due to a tranny failure,... another story, didn`t sell it but the guy backed out maybe to my benefit? i`ll tear into it some to see how it`s set up but i hate to. hate to cabbage on to it , muss it up ??? 6 and one half doz of the other i guess. great cars, hate to shy away from them but reliability does not seem to be their strong point, maybe some one has or had the time and money to make them bullit proof , but not me, wish the head was designed better.. dont we all .is it worth the cost i don`t know. i`m 39 been a mopar nut and motorhead all my life married now, in debt ect hate to say it but i may just need to start over,,, got lots of irons in the fire and no time..... may sell the whole lot. got a 68 cor rt 4sp, 88 day pacifica t11 , 71 eldo conv,72 4x4 498 BB dart alum heads, corillo gorilla rods solid roller ect,92 spirit,93 iroc rt , 02 yamaha vmax, among others, may sell later rt`s as a whole???? but probably will fix then sell, $ time , which way L or R .. as i say got lots of options... 93 is loaded too, hate to see it this way, cam lobes looked great...p.s. may put pics up THANKS for the help, listening, now all i need is cheese to go with my whine.p.s. it also looks like the bearing is centered in the journal with a lube hole running at a 45 degree angle at the bottom front edge of the bearing to down toward the opposite side , to were as the oil would lube the front seal, i did not see a hole dead center of the bearing like is usual ,like i say got to get deeper into this..... smells like i`m knee deep in it now ha ha...

IMHO by the time you get done machining the head, replace the cam, custom make a bearing etc. (and do a lot of this ) you are going to have $1,000 to $1500 in it. Right now on ebay, there is a NEW TIII Head with cams, rockers & gears for $1600 Buy Now (5 days left, I think). In the long run, it might be cheaper to pick up the new head and then sell/part out what ever you have left, to re-coop some of your expense.
Just food for thought. Like you said there are several options and only you can decide what is right for you. Good luck
