Hi all,

I know that many guys like Dave St-Louis and Cliff Ramsdell already done the Lotus TIII swap into a P-body (Dave) or a K-body (Cliff).

The old 2.5 T1 (actually TII specs) in my '89 Shadow is getting tired and I have a nice 16V TIII A-568 setup w/ 77k miles running fine.

I know I'll have to swap the A-520 shifter and cables for the A-568 setup. I already have a custom front-mounted IC and I'm not affraid of doing some fabrication to make everything fit.

What are the biggest issues of this swap? What I'm really affraid of is the wiring harness I'll have to swap the '89 SMEC and wiring harness for the '91 SBEC and TIII harness...

My question is: How hard is it to make the '91 TIII underhood wiring harness work with my '89 P-body in-car/dash harness?? I know I'll probably be able to make the car run but it would be nice to get some data to the dash and some power to the rear brake lights...

Any information is welcome

Thanks,
Pascal Blouin

Actually an easier way is to find a P Body VNT harness (SBEC) and use it. Neil Emiro did this years ago (TIII VNT). YOu could probably use the R/T SBEC stock and except for a few pins being out of order it should work. Neil had a large VNT turbo on his car so he used a reprogrammed VNT SBEC and a cam mounted dist to run it.

Isn't there a lot of difference between a 8V-car SBEC wiring harness compared to a 16V-car SBEC wiring harness?

Like the DIS ignition, cam sensor and crank position sensors?

yeah, those are diff.. but neil used a distributer so he could use all 8v wiring. Im sure he had to lengthen/shorten some plugs since the TPS and AIS are in the front on the 16v, and so forth

i would guess if you want to use the 16v's DIS, use a 16v harness. If you want a distributer, use an 8v

Well, since I have a complete R/T parts car with a running engine (I start it once a month just to be sure it's a true 16V and not only in my dreams...), I'll transplant every single thing I can find under the hood.

So I'll be using the stock R/T DIS ignition and wiring harness... spliced to feed my old Shadow dash and lighting system.

...hmmmmm... 16V lightweight P-Body :big grin:

Well I already introduced Mr. Fiberglass and Mr. NoRear Seats to my P-Body...

...Mr SawZall is the next guest on the list... He'll bring his friends: NoSpare TireWell and NoBumper SteelBeam. Mr. Lexan will come later to the party. :big grin:

They are lighter than that. The curb weight for a 2-door P-body is around 2600lbs...

So another R/T sacrificed to the speed ***s........

Shame on you..... unless the rest of the car is trashed.....

and I hope it's not silver

From what I am reading it really sounds like a hybrid will be cheaper and easier to maintain in the long run......

Hey H Bomb...

My Spirit is dead.... front body panels are all crashed and the frame is bent from a front impact on the driver side . I had to "peel off" the radiator from the engine bay... my SBEC plastic housing is in pieces but the PCB was intact: Thank you "brown rubber goo"! "thumbs up

It's easier to swap the drivetrain than trying to rebuild the car. I'm not destroying any good R/T here... I'm just trying to save a TIII... and I hate it when people are destroying good condition cars to get parts. But since mine is crashed... I couldn't resist to a 16V P-body :big grin:

Anybody need interior/cosmetic '91 Red Spirit R/T parts? The car is in perfect condition from the front doors to the rear bumper and it only has 77k miles.

Too bad to hear another one is gone but since someone did the damage by all means PLAY! Did not mean to offend but I am a sucker for the R/T. "thumbs up

Or if you wanted a real sleeper swap the drivetrain into the early 90's Lebaron 4 dr with the Landeau vinyl top! 4 wheel discs, 5 speed and all.....I think that would be cool!
