Hi Dave,

The #1 cause of boost spiking 7psi is hitting your head with a hammer multiple times. It makes your eyes cross funny, and makes the boost guage look like it's reading higher

Actually ... just make sure that your source of intake manifold pressure is unobstructed, and keep the vent hole kind of small, and that should be about as good as you'll get it. Make sure your G-valve is clean and not leaking from dirt ...

A good place to start is to adjust the wastegate actuator arm length. I've found that with the stock turbo, if you're shooting for the 14-18psi range, adjust the arm tight enough such that your minimum boost (intake manifold vacuum directly to the actuator) is about 9 or 10 psi through the medium RPMs. Go tighter if you're running higher boost than that. It will anti-creep in the higher RPMs, that's life with a stock turbo on an R/T ...

Keep tinkering, you'll get it right ...

In addition to wastegate arm length, if you have a stock BOV make sure it isnt leaking.

I like my wastegate arm on the tight side, I shorten the arm until I have to pull against the wastegate spring about the length of the hole(3/16). The TIIIs run alot of back pressure and tend to force the flapper open prematurely.

good luck

I have a similar problem with my 92 R/T TIII. With the stock setup it would boost great to about 12psi then immediately drop to 7psi. I put a G valve on and adjusted the boost to 14-15 psi and now it immediately drops to 10psi boost. What’s going on? I’m running go fuel the motor has been completely rebuilt 2500 miles ago. Also I’m at 5800 feet altitude so I don't think I am detonating nor do I hear any.

If your knock sensor is working correctly you wont hear any knock, but you will feel the timing being retarded.

As far as you boost drop, I need to know how your grainger is installed. It needs to be in a line(larger the better) from the manifold. I tee'd directly into the line from the manifold to the brake booster. You want the grainger lines to be as close to the wastegate as possible. I Tee'd in right before the brake booster, then ran a short line into the G-valve and another line out of the G-valve twards the wastegate can. Before it gets there I tee'd it again, one goes to the wastegate the other has the restrictor bleeding to atmosphere.

I hold 20 psi just fine with about a 1 psi spike.

good luck

As I mentioned in my prior reply it drops boost from 12psi to 7psi in the stock configuration, no gainger installed. Did not know if there was some sort of mechanical bypass in the wastegate actuator can that drops pressure above 12 psi to 7psi or what

theres no mechanical bypass. The above mentioned posts more than likely contain your solution.
