Has anyone put a TIII in a dakota? I'm thinking of doing a Shelby Dakota swap to a TIII. Looks Fairly simple. ...

I hope it's a clone Shelby... those Dakota trucks are getting hard to come by.. My father has number 564.. in red, hes doing a temp 360 swap in his but plans to rebuild and stoke the 318 it came with

Plus you have to cut a hole in the floor.. and add a clutch pedal if you're going with a manual..

I think a tIII in a shelby dakota would be fantastic. I can understand the reluctance to use a 'real' shelby dak but there are plenty of them out there that would be better off with a resto-mod treatment than no resto anything. Some of them are just rotting or being driven into the ground. Find one, make it better, and you'll have done it justice in my opinion.

Well to answer your question, I guess no one has put a TIII in a Dakota. You would be the first! I on the other hand, seeing a first gen Dakota that's already setup for a V8, that has none of the computer system left, would be thinking a built-360/carb setup.

But, that's just my opinion. Trust me, I would love to see you put a TIII in it! At least you guys are thinking about what to do with it to get it back on the road, and not scrapping it because of the fire!

I think a TIII swap is the right choice... I like the idea of 25mpg & a easy 300 hp. I already battled a 93 dak with a built 360 with a 3000 stall , 3.90 gears. I was lucky to get 10 mpg with the 518od trans & driving in any mist or rain was useless. (I would have to sit & wait until it dried up some to even try to move... feather the gas,,spin,spin,spin etc... Ever tried pushing a rope ,But oh god would it run. (12.55 et) So I've been there...

I know there was one at one time, not sure if you can still find now though. Maybe someone on here has one laying around.
