I decided to check the lifters on my Spirit R/T today. I removed the intake valve cover first. Everything looks OK as far as I can tell, except most of the plastic retainer rings on the lifters were either missing or broken.

Then I removed the exhaust valve cover. Here is where things get BAD. A rocker arm for one of the #2 exhaust valves was completely busted. The roller and lifter assembly were GONE. I couldn't find the pieces anywhere. There is also a nice gouge in the cam lobe, but not too severe. What do I do now???

I will post pics of the rocker arm carnage later today.

Also, the engine makes great compression and oil pressure. The only noise the engine made was from the valvetrain, which is why I decided to check the lifters today. Car doesn't smoke at all either.

I think somebody (previous mechanic) found out what was wrong, but then found out that TIII valvetrain parts are practically impossible to get, and decided to put it back together anyway. I can't find the lifter, roller, or any loose metal under the valve cover.

{EDIT} I went to www.newmoparparts.com and they list the intake and exhaust rockers for the TIII engine at $115.20. Are these really still available? If so, is that price for one or all eight?

The price of $115 is for a single rocker arm, although if memory serves me right it also comes with a new lifter.

How do I know if I'm getting the left or right side rocker arm? There are two different exhaust rockers; left and right.

I noticed that there is a # stamped into the side of the rockers:
Left rockers:
F-46910.1
LH 06

Right rockers:
F-46910
RH 06

And one more thing....what are those little metal discs and where do they go? I found three of them after removing the exhaust rocker shaft....

They go in the tip of the rocker and the lifter rides on it. There are 3 small cuts on them also, I forget off hand which way they are supposed to be installed.
