well daily, about 14-30 miles a day as a matter of fact and it only has 174,000 on the clock... my lowest mileage car if that's what were after would be my 71superbee with 72k, my 67 has closer to 100k but they don't get used as often, i drive the new car... the 87 that is...

My 88 Shadow will become my DD and its a pretty good performance build.
I work Mon-Thurs 54miles there and 54miles back. Im not ignoring the fact that they go do seem to have there issues but as far as reliable ask the guys who drive their's cross country(Jackson-lotashelbys- does it in TIII equipped cars). If you took the maintance of it seriously and kept an eye out on things i'd recommend a TD., but that's my .02 cents

I've been driving my 86 laser for 12 yrs as a DD,( only car I own ) if you don't beat on them they can be very reliable. You'll need to learn how to replace head gaskets though. The people who put down these cars don't know how to wrench, here in Los Angeles theres still alot of TD's driving around.

Hey guys, I didn't mean to rub anybody wrong in my last posting. Honestly. I just knew that having somethign for a long time isn't necessarily the best indicator for longevity and reliability in the way that I'd need it to be.

My commute is also about 54 miles each way - so I need something reasonably economical. Most of it is cruising, but there are times in the Detroit traffic that I need to scoot out of my own way ASAP. I figured a boosted 4 would be the ticket for me since it would work great to best support BOTH of those causes.

Who knows, mebby if I stub my toe on one it'll follow me home. I DO know though, that I'll be a LOT more comfortable in doing so now that I know I have this site as a resource for any questions that I'd ever have.

Thanks alot agian guys. I'm still on the fence - so we'll see. Probably just a matter of time.

Peace,
John

well in my opinion.. a td that has not been taken care of will cause many problems just like any other car, but with the basics replaced.. like hoses, fluids, lines filters etc, and a solid engine to start with, I don't see why it should not be reliable. From what I see a lot on this board is peeps that run em like raped apes, and we all know that a nrha car usually has to be rebuilt after each pass, and thats with millions of dollars behind em. Sooooo. Drive it have fun and watch the lead foot.

Like Entity said... And I'd definitely agree that the DSM's require MONEY. Or having insane hook-ups with parts. I've had more DSM's than td's, but for the little experience of driving a td, I'd stay Mopar all the way. I've got maybe a third of the money I put into my DSM's, if even that, and I've got a near perfect 87 Omni body, two 555's, a 568, a couple massive intercoolers, and parts to build three turbo engines plus some stocked up (haven't started the build yet). And, I've got a vnt Shadow that's a blast to drive. MPG's only around 30 with a light foot, but it's not bad at all. I got hooked when I started driving on my pop's old 84 bone stock Omni (got 40 on the highway)... Since then, I've strayed, but the bang for the buck has brought me back.
Also, most of the maintenance and repair work I've run into on these cars has been pretty simple and cheap...
Best of luck.
