That is the ring landing, Cheap pistons is a leading cause, detonation from not running premium gas, too much boost with cast pistons. Same thing happened to a friend of mine.

are mahle cheap pistons? i got sealed power for replacements but i think there one and the same company. got sealed power rings too. supposed to be a moly top premium set. advance auto parts $63.48. seems cheap to me. pistons are $36.88

Those are both good pistons, are they forged or cast. Forged pistons are a must, well worth the extra money.

I did a little research and sounds like Mahle is the best cast piston to run if you are not going to run forged, that is what the OEM pistons are. They should be fine if you are running a stock setup. Forward motion sells JE forged, venolia forged are also great, even
Trw forged but you are talking probably $700.00++ Not really sure what everybody is running in their motors, my 90 vnt Shadow has the stock pistons no problems yet, running 15lbs boost.

Read the section about pistons at the dodge garage, you can safely make 300+hp with cast pistons, detonation will kill them in a hurry. Broken ring lands Donovan's Dodge Garage
