What's the right factory number for the PVC valve that should run in an 89 CSX (VNT)?

I believe they`re all the same for t2`s.Just go to yuor local auto parts store and ask them for one on a 90 daytona shelby 2.2 turbo. This would be the same one. the 89 csx may not be in the computer.

NAPA has only one for the 1990 Daytona 2.2 and doesn't list Shelby as a separate model. Franz has one for the 2.2 and one for the 2.5 but neither is listed for a turbo. Any other thoughts?

PS: Another Shelby fan told me I should replace the unknown aftermarket one in my car because the valve cover gasket was leaking. I got one from the Dodge dealer but - even though they said it was the right one - it leaked more after I put it in. That's why I'm so baffled.

Jim, you have to remember that once the seal is blown out it does not just reseal itself. You must now go in and reseal the valve cover.

I'm having that done Friday. I just want to make sure I have the right pcv valve, in case that was the cause in the first place. - Jim

Before you take it in to get that valve cover resealed tomorrow you may want to try firing it up and remove the oil fill cap. If you feel a lot of air pushing out most likely that reseal will not last or you will blow out some other seal instead. Too much blow by or an improperly functioning PCV system are the most common reasons we find for blowing out gaskets and seals in the auto repair field. You will also want to make sure that your ported vacuum side of the PCV system is properly functioning too. If it is not working right on a turbo car you can have unreal crankcase pressure building up inside the engine under boost. The best thing you could for getting a PCV valve is get yours directly from Dodge though. Then you know it is designed to have boost slamming against the back of it and it will hold the boost in. I have seen more than a few of the cheap valves let boost into the crankcase and blow the heck out of the seals and gaskets. Also causes over spinning of the turbo which in our case kills that poor little VNT turbo quick. Good luck and hope you are back to flying correctly soon.

As it turned out, the valve cover gasket had been improperly installed and it was just a coincidence that someone pointed out the aftermarket pcv valve when we spotted the aftermarket valve. But better safe than sorry - I learned a lot about the gasket and valve and related parts anyway.

Make sure your PVC 3 way hose is clamped to the valve cover nipple to prevent oil from leaking.

Good advice. It was old and cracked so I replaced it. - Jim
