This is a reminder for the long time VNT'ers and a warning for those new to them. Keep a close eye on your blow off valve if you turn up the wick at all. I happened to hear a pop last spring and because I saw no change in boost pressure as well as had no time did not think anything of it. It turns out the diaphram ripped and I am now putting in a new turbo. That poor little sucker spun so hard and fast it shattered the thrust washer and ate its seals. It then snapped the turbine end clean off. Do not think it can not happen to you, I am a professional tech and thanks to lack of time it got me.

It was still hissing, but something just did not seem right with the way it was accelerating. It would internittently sound like it was pushing boost out someplace though it could never be found. Oh well, new turbo is in and running with a 1G DSM bov. Makes for a nice safety cushion having a much better one in there. I also replaced any of the silicone connectors to the intercooler and then to the TB. I still for the life of me can not figure out how some people say that their engine is rougher idling without the balance shafts though, I have noticed no difference at all.
