After replacing my valve cover gasket and pcv valve (and connection), my 89 CSX still seems to be leaking a little oil somewhere on the back side of the engine. I can't see where, even with a flashlight, but it pools in the "hollow areas" on the top of the block. I have read that these engines leak a little oil from around the pcv valve under boost. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

yeah. it did the same on my Daytona.

follow the pcv to the airbox and from the airbox to the oil return line of the turbo to the oil pan, I installed new clips everywhere to keep the oil from dripping off the tubes ... but look inside the airbox, mine was leaking from the left where the pcv comes in and out ... there is a little piece of plastic you can remove ... i did that and i sealed it with sillicon (CAREFULL NOT TO BLOCK THE LITTLE HOLE IN THERE !!!). .. i still need to check if this is 100% sealed. but looks good so far !!

hope this helps.

Heck, just make ya an intake tube and delete that oil drain back going to the turbo drain tube. I have my crankcase vent system fed right to the intake tube and it is not pulling but a very lightly noticeable bit of oil in. You should not have very much oil coming out of the crankcase ventilation system unless you have a very worn set of rings not holding the boost in the cylinders.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm a little confused about all the oil, water, vacuum and other lines from the engine to the turbo and so on. I've looked with a flashlight, but it's awfully tight quarters on the backside of the engine.

I haven't found a good diagram of these lines for a VNT anywhere yet. Can anyone post or e-mail me a link to one?

I hate to break the news Jim, but the best diagram I have seen for them is the one on the bottom of the hood. I even personally have access to Mitchell On-Demand and Alldata, yet neither are show you any other type of diagram. You just have to look closely and have a lot of patience when getting lines correct on these engines. I and most others on here can tell you though that once it is right you will be glad you took your time. The difference will be night and day as long as all other parts are good.

Yes, the leak was the oil line that runs from the thermostat housing to the turbo. The valve cover gasket had been leaking, so I thought the oil on the line was coming from it but they were both leaking. I hate to say this, but I also assumed the oil line was a water line (hey, it's coming from the thermostat housing!) and it took all you guys to straighten me out. Thanks.

Jim, the one from the T-stat housing is carrying coolant. there is one right below it though that comes off of the oil pressure sending unit adapter that carries the oil. It is the smaller on of the two going around the driver's side of the head.

I know that. I was just testing you. Actually I did know that, but not until after the line was switched and my mechanic explained it to me. I had originally thought they we both water lines (coming and going) and it just stuck in my head. Duh. - Jim

I just replaced both of these lines with the braided lines from turbonation.com. They look like they would hold up better than the factory ones but I`ll have to wait and see.So far I have about 5 miles on the car since putting them on and no leaks yet.
